Brokaw: "Islamic Rage Did Not Go Away; In Some Ways It's More Dangerous" (video)

BROKAW: I don't think any of us are any more insulated from this kind of violence because it's on television 24/7. My wife and I were getting ready for dinner Friday night when they finally began to find him and capture him, and I said to her, this is a reality show we're going to be living with for a long time. We went through recently under different circumstances in Newtown with the mass shooting of the youngsters there. I remember so vividly Oklahoma City and how that bound us together.

There are a couple of things to remember, David, I think for all of us. With the death of Osama Bin Laden, Islamic rage did not go away. In fact, in some ways it's more dangerous. This is a perfect example. You can't get intel on the lone operator. There’s a lot we still need to know about what motivated him, obviously. He’s a Chechen, but their beef is with Russia not with us. But, he’s also a Muslim. And the fact is that Islamic rage is still out there. We saw it in Times Square. We were very, very fortunate under those circumstances. So there has to be more vigilance, obviously.

But what Boston also told us, we have added 30 million surveillance cameras to this country. We have more than doubled our private security budget in this country to now almost $50 billion. The saying is, if you see something, say something. But the other part of that, of course, if you do something, someone will see you doing something. And that's at once a relief, but it also makes me a little uncomfortable. There is no privacy left in our so society. (Meet the Press, April 21, 2013)

We don’t need more “understanding.”

We need to keep them out of our country.
They don’t belong here.

It's not islamic rage. it's just chechens being chechens. I wonder when Americans are going to GET this finally.

I am quite sure these two just thought this would be a hoot, make some explosives and kill some people.

Echoing your sentiment, this is going around Facebook.

Cam Siciliano

“I don’t want to know his name. I don’t want to see his face. I don’t want to know his life’s history, his back-story, who his family is, where he went to school, or what he liked to do in his spare time. I don’t want to know what “cause”, if any, he was fighting for. I don’t want to know why he did it, or may have done it, or what possessed him to carry out his actions. I don’t want to know. Because that’s what he really wants. I’ll be damned if I’m going to give him what he wants.

“Put him on trial, but don’t cover it. Tell me when you decide to jail him for three lifetimes - because that number matters. That’s the number of lives he has to now pay for. That’s all I want to know about him. Nothing else.

“Instead, tell me about the first responders who ran towards the fray, within seconds, fearless. Tell me about the ones wearing the yellow volunteer jacket, or the neon police vest, or even the ones in the regular everyday t-shirt who became a helper. Tell me the story about the first responder who held gauze over a wound until they made it to the hospital. Tell me the story about the volunteer who held the hand of the injured spectator until they got into the ambulance. In six months, tell me the story of those who lost a limb, who beat the odds, pulled through countless surgeries, and are learning to walk again. Tell me the story about the love, the compassion, and the never-ending support of thousands, millions, of people who support the victims here. Tell me their stories. Tell me everything you can, because they are the ones that matter. Tell me of the good that they have done, are doing, and will continue to do, regardless of... No, not regardless of, in spite of. In spite of that someone who would do them harm. Because that’s what freedom in this country means. It means coming together in the hardest of times, even in the face of unfathomable adversity, to make life better for all those around us.

“Tell me the good stories. That’s all I want to hear.”

He is what the Brits call a "newsreader". NTTAWWT, but really how does that qualify him as a commentator on events? He has never really shown any particular insight or knowledge or thoughtfulness. He mistakes the rumbling of his bowels for the voice of wisdom.

Hey Tom Broke-Jaw, why are they so enraged?

Ans: Many of them in the US are not enraged because they have good jobs and great businesses going.

Tamerlan was an unemployed loser, blaming the most generous nation on Earth for his own lack of success. This emptiness and anger was then filled with the Jihad fantasy, then giving meaning and power to his puny life. Strike at the decadent West, when he found that he could not gain access to it.

Odd how he remembers Oklahoma City (1995 - 168 dead - and how it bound everyone together) but he doesn’t remember 9/11 ( 2001 over 3,000 dead - because it was radical Muslim) or the Ricin letter of last week ( because they were sent out by a Democrat).

McVeigh was a monster, Bill Ayers and his wife are monsters, the World Trade Center killers are monsters - and so are these two... Oh, and the liberal terrorists teaching at Columbia is a monster...

Brokaw’s creepy in his selective disgust with monsters.

But but but Obama gave his Mission Accomlished before the UN. We don’t need to have wars against Islamonazis. Regime change can occur with US aid of Islamonazis, of course if the head of state is decidedly pro-Islamist he can declare mission accomplished and not be wrong.

As Peter Jennings said of Boosh in the wake of 9-11 “Some presidents do this sort of thing well, while others (rolls eyes) do not.”

He's talking about radical Muslims. And he does mention Osama bin Laden and the Times Square bombing attempt. So what are you on about?

And if the UK paper has it right, it made him a member of a terrorist cell, with he and his brother as hit-men. People like him have been around forever. The Irish Fenians, the Serbian black-hand etc.

I remember so vividly Oklahoma City and how that bound us together.

I remember they demo'd the building before any forensic investigation was done. And I remember they carefully avoided John Doe #2.
