If you cut the issue along religious lines, you lose or you go to war. Nothing else can come of it. Mixing religious crusades and state power has been a bad idea since Constantine.

I sliced the issue entirely differently that gets you where you want. But since it doesn’t result in a religious crusade, it just doesn’t turn you on.

I agree, but it's also perfectly illustrative of why we've lost the argument.

The other side says "because freedom" and we respond either with Bible verses, which only convince people already convinced, or long-winded "slogs" like this one that are too tough to get through.

Many folks do not know the difference between FREEDOM and LICENTIOUSNESS.

Whether or not someone goes to hell is not a matter or reason for public policy if you live with people of other faiths or views. If you want to impose your faith, that leads to war and is not Christian. If you assert your right to impose your faith on others, you are also asserting their right to do the same to you. That’s why it is a losing argument.
