Gov. Chris Christie on Friday unveiled a multi-faceted plan to curb gun violence in New Jersey that includes expanding government-funded mental health treatment, requiring parental sign-off before children can buy or rent violent video games, and mandating that ID presented by would-be gun-owners is government-issued.
The Republicans plan also includes a ban on the sale of Barrett .50-caliber semi-automatic sniper rifles, bail reforms that would make it harder for people suspected of violent gun crimes to be released, and provisions to make it easier for courts and health care professionals to involuntarily commit people they consider violent to a psychiatric hospital.
The plan does not address classroom security or propose stricter limits on the capacity of ammunition magazines, which in New Jersey stands at 15 rounds.

The .50 BMG makes the armored limousine class very nervous.
Darn.. they are trying to ban my dream rifle. If I ever had the money I would buy two,one for DH and my own Barrett 50 cal. I am a left handed riflegal so I must have my own rifles.
Actually, many Taliban terrorists in Afghanistan have been blown to muzzie bits with the Barrett rifle.
Governor Crisco is insufferable to conservatives & it’s not due to his weight. If he were skinny, his name would be Lautenburg.
I never was too impressed with Christie. He’s better than a Democrat which is per usual for RINOs. Now, I’m not so sure.
Maybe.
But google it.
Weighs 31 lbs.
One huge hunk of gun.
No one is going to haul it under their coat.
Getting it in place and setting it up would be a busy event easily spotted by any decent security detail.
You can’t punch through an armoured vehicle with them, but don’t forget that snipers regularly kill at distances near 1/2 mile with the same calibres we hunt with...308, .300 mag, .338, etc.
So eventually all of those would be banned as well.
Never mind that even to kill at that range with those smaller weapons, one must have all sorts of support equipment which again one does not carry under one’s shirt.
A different thing than the way we are equipped to hunt.
Does Ann Coulter still like him?
With Republicans like Christie, who needs Democrats?
He really is showing his progressive color now, amazing.
Coulter has retracted her support for Christie already. But it is a tough mistake to live down.
If fatboy had any sense, he would push for a law like we have down here in Florida. Mandatory long prison sentence if you use a gun in the commission of a crime.
I know. I just an now aware that they have been used to commit murders in the United States. I can probably afford one now, but it’s too late.
Why not the .300 Win Mag or .338 Lapua? Because those haven't been on 60 Minutes yet. Its all about feelings, and in this case that feeling is fear. You don't fear what you don't know exists. For those who do know, its a matter of first getting the camel's nose under the tent wall.
Actually you can, which is the entire purpose of using heavy machine guns versus light machine guns. They are so effective at penetrating vehicles with .5" or less of armor, that the simple existence of heavy machine guns keeps such vehicles off of the front lines.
Most light skinned vehicles that are designed to stop a .30 cal round will not stop a .50 BMG. As a rule, it takes twice as much armor.
The bill puts the focus on gun use rather than gun registration. That hits the target.
At least the rest of it makes a tiny bit more sense than the New York, Colorado, and Connecticut plans, although not by much.
Zero...
IIRC, one stolen one was recovered at a crime scene.
Good grief. Just throw anything at the wall that feels good, and see what sticks. As if any of these measures would stop a Newtown shooting.
And what on earth is the deal with banning the Barrett .50 cal semi-auto rifle? Sounds like someone threw a dart at a board of guns, just to pick something to ban.
Now there's a sixty four thousand dollar question, if I ever heard one. Yeah....come on out y'all. Promise we won't laugh at you. Much.
Most conservatives knew that Coulter was making a mistake when she first came out for Christie. Our interest in the guy had already waned by that time, and we were turning off to him, for the most part.
Coulter came out of nowhere with this enormous enthusiasm for the guy, which looked extremely odd to most of us at the time. I'm afraid her retraction is as stupid as her initial infatuation with the guy. Both prove that she's off the reservation, and far out of the loop.
