Gun debate triggered media bias By: Dylan Byers April 18, 2013 07:09 PM EDT
If you thought President Obama was outraged after the Senate killed the plan to expand background checks on guns, you should have seen some members of the press.
Even by the standards of todays partisan media environment, the response has been noteworthy. Television hosts, editorial boards, and even some reporters have aggressively criticized and shamed the 46 Senators who opposed the plan, while some have even taken to actively soliciting the public to contact them directly.
The decision by some members of the media to come down so firmly on one side of a policy debate has only served to reinforce conservatives longstanding suspicions that the mainstream media has a deep-seated liberal bias.
I guess the liberal media get annoyed when Senators listen to their constituents and think for themselves, rather than doing the medias bidding, Bill Kristol, the editor-in-chief of the Weekly Standard, told POLITICO.
Its clearly biased and unmistakably ideological, said John Podhoretz, the conservative New York Post columnist. These outlets can do what they do want, but nobody should kid themselves about what theyre doing.

Conservatives are doubly frustrated because amid all this cheerleading, the media largely turned a deaf ear to one of the rights central substantive arguments: There is little evidence that the Manchin-Toomey plan could prevent another Aurora or Newtown a fact many reports glossed over. Indeed, Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein recently stated on the Senate floor that universal background checks, while very important
would not have been prevented the tragedy in Newtown.

The gun debate is used to keep the real issues of the table.
Its the economy stupid Obama.
Awe you don’t need nothin to trigger media bias other than a conservative ideal, bias just comes naturally to the general media.
There would have been no debate without the media. It was purely media driven and would have been a non-issue without their 24-7 efforts to make it look like a debate. It was 99.999% theater, complete with actors and props. Just like everything this administration does. A recent poll showed that only 4% of America even thought that “gun control” was an important issue to pursue. Sorry, I am too lazy to look up the poll but I’m sure a quick search will find it if you are inclined to check me.
Bill O’Reilly called for federal gun registration on his show and castigated Obama for doing an ineffective job.
But O’Reilly is an idiot.
This is a funny story, coming from Politico as it is.
When it finally comes down to it, make sure that you save some tar and feathers the MSM whores.
Heck, the media should be first...and should be NOW!
Triggered media bias? Hell, they’re always on full-auto!
Really.
What happened to the President who was laser-focused on job creation?
Meaning no disrespect, but so are the people who watch O’Reilly.
If they stopped watching the a-hole he would go away.
And the other 10% is when someone says "Mr. President?" and he says "Yes?"
Not a watcher. I had fox on in the background and it was his turn.
I bet several of them do indeed get contacted directly.
