Emergency crews were responding Wednesday night after a report of a major explosion at a burning fertilizer plant in West north of Waco.
West firefighters were dispatched to the plant earlier in the evening after an earlier fire rekindled.
The explosion was reported at around 7:50 p.m. in a frantic radio call from the scene of the fire at West Fertilizer at 1471 Jerry Mashek Dr. just off Interstate 35.
Numerous injuries were reported and multiple ambulances were requested.
Several buildings were reported destroyed and a nearby nursing home was damaged.

It’s a long story.
Where I am originally from, kolaches are different.
Hoo Boy.
We always make trips to pick up treats from them...great stop outside Waco... Unreal this is happening here
If someone would have asked me even three years ago if I thought there would be a time in my life when I would be checking to make sure I have my weapon in addition to my cell phone before I walk out the front door I would have told them they were crazy.
All of this is so far afield from what I ever envisioned the last phase of my life would ever be like - it was just stuff that happened somewhere else far, far away. And it certainly is not the kind of a world I wanted for my grandchildren. Just have to do the best we can within our physical limitations and leave the rest up to God.
Prayers up!
Another American who lived through some very tough times once expressed similar thoughts:
"Let us raise a standard to which the wise and the honest can repair. The event is in the hand of God."
His name was George Washington.
