If someone would have asked me even three years ago if I thought there would be a time in my life when I would be checking to make sure I have my weapon in addition to my cell phone before I walk out the front door I would have told them they were crazy.
All of this is so far afield from what I ever envisioned the last phase of my life would ever be like - it was just stuff that happened somewhere else far, far away. And it certainly is not the kind of a world I wanted for my grandchildren. Just have to do the best we can within our physical limitations and leave the rest up to God.
Another American who lived through some very tough times once expressed similar thoughts:
"Let us raise a standard to which the wise and the honest can repair. The event is in the hand of God."
His name was George Washington.
