A large explosion rocked the town of West, Texas, 19 miles north of Waco, on Wednesday evening.
A source tells News 8 that a large swath of the small town with a population of 2,800 has been leveled.
According to initial reports, the blast was at the West Fertilizer plant at 1471 Jerry Mashek Drive, about a half-mile east of Interstate 35.

Are you kidding me.
George Bush did it as this is practically in his backyard..... well.... kinda.
Prayer’s Up
Some cities don’t have zoning but many do.
OMG!! I didn’t hear her say that, either! Bless her heart...
I never said it was less important. I said it would require a different response as an industrial accident than it would as an act of war.
Having been a safety officer in a chemical rich industry I am achingly aware of dangers of corner cutting and poor practices.
I know how to prevent most of them. I know the difficulties in predicting the unexpected and having contingency plans for everything.
Have you ever woken up in a cold sweat wondering what would happen if someone grabbed the wrong bottle? I have.
If they go that route in the blame game, well it's just as logical to blame the Obama regime. Thanks to his administration's stifling regulations, employers have had to make deep cuts in staff. Incompetent workers are increasingly the norm, thus paving the way for accidents. And there have been plenty of these during Obama's disastrous tenure.
I have a little dog that is scared to death of thunder. I heard something I thought was thunder then she came and jumped in my lap. Surely I didn’t hear this all the way to Houston.
JEEEZ!!
I almost thought the person recording that video was killed, but you see camera movement again at the end of the video.
Healing prayers for the injured and comfort to the families who have lost loved ones.
Joining you here.
I think not having zoning makes a city delightfully trashy, yet refined. Houston is probably the biggest city without, for sure. They manage to more or less control things in other ways. I don’t think it looks much different than anywhere else.
Saw this on TWITTER.....

Oh, there's zoning in Texas - it's just not as onerous and restrictive as in a lot of other states. Less government here, ya know?
could kill a really small town
They put out a “if you want to help, don’t help” call about half an hour ago. Managing the gear on hand is becoming a nightmare, they sent everything else back.
I went back....yes, her husband is a volunteer fireman. He went to the call of the 1st report of the fire......
The mayor just said they went to fight the fire then it exploded.
He also said they got all the residents of the nursing home out. Thank God!
He also said what they need is prayers.
It’a quite possible the plant was there first and the town grew up around it, so to speak. Happens often with little airports. They start way out in a field, then subdivisions spring up around them and the residents complain about the noise from the air traffic.
The mayor just said there is a 5 block area being evacuated. Not the entire town.
I wish they’d call in the auctioneer to give the media instructions. LOL!
Look at street maps, if the streets are pretty regular it probably has zoning. Sometimes it looks like a drunkard decided where the streets go. (Houston, Grand Prarie)
