The FBI said there has been 'substantial progress' in the Boston bombing investigation after they analyzed surveillance footage shot from a nearby department store which showed a man planting the second bomb. Investigators said the individual is seen at the site of the second explosion wearing a black jacket, a grey hooded sweatshirt and a white or off-color-white baseball cap backwards placing a back-pack on the ground while talking on his cellphone. The video obtained by the FBI captures this man using his cellphone at the moment the first explosion detonated 100 yards away on Boylston Street on Monday and 12 seconds before the second blast close to where he is standing. Federal agents then focused on the time-frame of that conversation to retrieve cell-phone records to identify potential callers according to CBS News. Call logs were then obtained through the cell phone masts surrounding the attack zone and using these, investigators matched up the users' identity with the time specific video and pictures to zero in on the individual.

I just hope these aren’t Obama phones they were using
Of course the 19 were going to be martyrs anyways so who cares.
Thanks CBS/DailyMail for explaining this in public, so the next terrorist won’t make the same mistake.
Great job.

British press, as always, gets it.

Yeah, right. I’m sure the bomber used his own personal cell phone, instead of, say, an untraceable throwaway available for a few bucks in every Walmart in America.
everyone knows this anyway...unless you’re like me and i use disposable boost and virgin mobile phones.
The Daily Mail is our “Radio Free Europe”.
Where is his picture?
Everything in the Daily Mail is repackaged info from US media/television. This story appears to be entirely based on CBS news, for example.
My guess is that they were “cheap” and got on a family verizon plan....so they’re all connected. Just stupid...
IF the picture they highlight is of the suspect, he certainly appears to be white. This is the guy dressed in black no hat, who they think is reacting oddly to the blast.
Should have been using a track phone. Smash it and scatter the pieces in the harbor after you’re done.
Maybe they have the wrong guy?
They’re pretty stupid alright, that’s the definition of the kind of person who does this kind of stuff. But I think they’ve learned that there’s no percentage in suicide bombing. These guys won’t give up. We need to tighten up our immigration policies and not allow these people entry into the country. Am I profiling? You damn well better believe I am. It’s not the Amish making these terrorists attacks world-wide. And it’s not American citizens. Well, with a few notable exceptions like the nutcase Unabomber and leftist Bill Ayers’ Weathermen, et al.
Even if it was a throw away, they still got visual on him via a frames of video synced with the cell data.
I have to wonder if this guy was just cheap, like the first WTC bomber who went back to the rental center for the deposit, after claiming that the van had been stolen. Maybe he watched Homeland and thought investigators have no way of telling what phone number made a phone call to alert a terrorist chief about an impending assassination attempt. Heck, maybe he even thought cell phone signals aren't jammed inside the Pentagon building.
Who says it was a disposable Wal-Mart phone? Speculations based on nothing.
With some help from Canada.
Sure is comforting to know more people are noticing. Not just politics, but crime, specially by protected groups.
