(CNN) -- The devices used in the Boston Marathon attack Monday are typical of the "lone wolf:" the solo terrorist who builds a bomb on his own by following a widely available formula. In this case, the formula seems very similar to one that al Qaeda has recommended to its supporters around the world as both crudely effective and difficult to trace. But it is also a recipe that has been adopted by extreme right-wing individuals in the United States. The threat of the "lone wolf" alarms the intelligence community.

the fact that the perp hasn’t come forward yet... makes me think he is already dead.
perhaps he committed suicide later and left a note explaining why he did it, but just hasn’t been found yet.

He did point out that if this person was trained, then they have left the area. He also pointed out that there must have been zero chatter because of the lack of leads. He did not mention this but I wonder if the Obama use of drones and lack of human intelligence will ultimately prove a factor in the lack of information and leads. Just speculation at this time...

Disagree. Lone Wolf = We have no clue. Amazingly, this has gone from “we are 100% sure we will get the bomber” to “lone wolf, cold trail, etc.” in just one day. CYA mode kicking in big time I think.

When, exactly, has a pressure cooker bomb with ball bearings been used by "extreme right-wing individuals" in the United States? Do most US households even own pressure cookers or have any idea of what to do with one?
AFAIK, the first reported use of this device in the US was in the 1976 Grand Central Station bomb which involved Croatian terrorists -- not exactly "extreme right-wing individuals in the United States". It sounds to me like they're tying themselves into logical pretzels to avoid stating the obvious -- that this is the work of Islamic terrorists. As IMO, the only thing missing here is a tape claiming responsibility for the bombing -- and that's presuming that news organizations haven't received a tape.
Residue of what? I have a pretty good surficant in my kitchen. I can scrub down the outside of a sealed pressure cooker in no time at all and leave nothing. As long as you don’t put fried chicken grease on there, the dogs don’t care.

Not sure there wouldn’t be some sort of residue the dogs would have picked up. I remember Neal Boortz joking he was going to spend all morning at the gun range, then go straight to the Atlanta airport and take a flight to Florida.
