Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) told reporters on Wednesday that the compromise legislation he crafted with Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA) to expand background checks for gun purchasers does not have enough votes to pass the Senate when it comes up for a vote.
[Snip]
Chuck Todd, NBCs Chief White House Correspondent, speculated that, because the Manchin/Toomey compromise could not pass the House, there is no incentive for legislators who may be vulnerable on the issue of guns in 2014 to pass stricter legislation.

Pat Toomey is learning the valuable lesson that fraternizing with the enemy can be a real career buster.

You got. Its like Boston broke the fever. No wonder obama looked so somber and unemotional at the monday statement reading. They had the whole week scheduled for photo ops/interviews.
Its actually sweet how it played out.
Last week they had that Senate vote on debate which gave the libs a false sense of victory as they gloated while here were endless complaints about GOP selling out again.
An outside observer would think it was over.
But it was not all well in spite with a weak bill still missing key support with upcoming amendments and even the amnesty RINO club bailing, and Schumer warning about parts of the bill(or amendments)
Palin and then Levin must have got the message that this bill was going down and tried to jump out in front Monday or Tuesday, (’it was our statements’),
Now this puts the final bullet in the bills head.
Obama gets nothing.
I see a good career in midlevel management at Walmart for Pat. :-)

The only way he was able to feign even remote concern. Afterall, the bombing was just the chickens coming home to roost
I was thinking McDonalds fryolator cleaner.
“Pat Toomey is learning the valuable lesson that fraternizing with the enemy can be a real career buster.”
So far it hasn’t hurt John McCain or Lindsay Graham in their home states.
About nall we learned from all this is that Manchin has a YACHT! Do WV voters, who pride themselves on their poverty, know that? I guess Rockefeller has a yacht too.
And even ol’ Strom Thurmond was reaching left in his later days too — backed D.C. statehood for instance. I don’t remember his vote on King Day, but I think he may have been for it.
2 very vocal opponents are getting ready to run again’st Gramnesty next go around. He’s very likely going to be primaried. His numbers are tanking in SC.
Pure dumb luck for our side.
And a good issue to oppose. Its a little like how the GOP set themselves up on the tax fight at the end of the year, they jumped right in the trap.
So now Obama cried wolf on sequester and then on gun control. If he walks away he looks stupid when it dies in the Dem controlled Senate, after that procede vote. (MSNBC declared victory :"WE beat the NRA...HA-HA")
Pretty sweet!
I used to be one of his few votes in Philly.
So the booze-fueled yacht party didn’t result in “stroke of a pen, law of the land” after all. Mr. Toomey? Your constituents may want a little word with you. BTT.
Is that what this melted earwax and singed nose hair is all about?
Yep.
That works also
