The Shariah police were conducting a raid on the main roads of Lhokseumawe on Friday, to monitor the administration’s bylaw that prohibits female passengers from straddling motorcycles.
“The aim of the raid ... is to uphold and inform people the regulation on straddling motorcycle issued by the mayor,” Irsyadi, the acting chief of the Lhokseumawe Shariah police... We also warned people who were not dressed up in an Islamic way.

If Islam wasn’t involved, I would think this was satire.
Because after a woman has a few hundred horsepower between her legs she might not be too impressed with the Indonesian Muslim micro peen.
One reason why much of the developing world will lag behind much of the developed world is their focus on silly little things. This is one (of several) reasons why most of the development in developing countries will not happen outside the largest cities. Too much focus on the useless and the asinine on aggregate.

Having been to Banda Aceh, and knowing their history of fearless sea pirates, I doubt they would have much trouble from a bunch of Hells Angels sheep, other than the HA’s crying for a phone call to the US Embassy.
Wasn’t Banda Aceh the hardest hit island in the 2004 tsunami? And wasn’t it a big tourist destination before that, welcoming all those “infidels” & women in bikinis?
I hope the “infidels” are now staying away in droves.

Don’t laugh, it is not just the Muslims! In the winter of 1985 I was a graduate student and rode a motorcycle to and from school. Sunday mornings I rode it to church. On a very cold Sunday morning I was walking in, wearing my winter overalls and holding the helmet and gloves in my hand, when the parish priest stopped me and said that I was not supposed to walk in dressed like that. He insisted that women, in his parish, only wear dresses to church! To make a long story short, I did not attend that church much longer after that!
Yep, Banda Aceh was Ground Zero for the tsunami.
The cement plant I had been to right off the beach was 3 miles from epi-center and had no warning before 100+ foot waves hit.
Although its a very beautiful place, never knew Banda Aceh or Sumatra as any tourist destination, primarily because of the mooselimbs. Nearby in Thailand had the tourist beach bikini areas hit hard too.

Yep, that’s Banda Aceh, which was one of the worst hit by the 2004 Christmas Tsunami.
