Back in February, several gun manufacturers decided to boycott law enforcement in states that are hostile to the Second Amendment, states like New York for instance. They would not be providing weapons or ammunition. Within a week that number had grown by over 700%. In the first article I provided information for several gun manufacturers that could be contacted to come on board with this boycott, including Glock, Sig Sauer, Smith & Wesson and Remington. Well, now we know where Remington stands. They stand on the side of government as they have let it be known that they will be staying in New York and they have now acquired a government contract worth $80 million.
I'm more than a little disappointed in their decision to do this, I always thought they would take the high road but you never know, it may not have even been their decision, they are held by someone else now.
I understand, but I am holding judgement for a while. It may be as presented, but this did not come from Remington, It came from a ComDem POL.
We shall see.
Umm, what am I missing here. The article says they are contracted to make new modular rifles for the US military, not for NYS LEOs. Just happens that they’re making them in the NY factory.
excellent post....very well said...
Doesn’t make sense to me.
Something is hidden from the public.
Marine snipers use the Remington 700 frame. It’s all the attachments that make it an M40 “sniper rifle”, and those attachments cost a lot more than the rifle. A LOT more.
When it came out the Lon was promoting HS, somebody posted a picture of Vicki Weaver to their “Trophy Page”. They took it down, but not before it got all around the net.
Y'all are barking up the wrong tree, here. Remington began in New York, that's their historic main plant in Ilion. Going on two centuries of history there, tradition, jobs at stake, longtime employees.
Trying to boycott every single company that doesn't act in absolute perfect accord with demands, and demands made after the fact at that, will weaken the meaning and impact of any such boycott in general.
Remington Arms is not your enemy. They've just elected to stay in the manufacturing facility they've always been in.
What in the world does New York need with $80 million dollars worth of sniper rifles? That seems to be the real question.
Tex. Ive had both Remington and Savage varmitt rifles. Still have one in a Savage .223. IMO the Savage rifles have been more accurate right out of the and a much better value. Their accu trigger is is as good as it gets for an OEM trigger set up.
Regardless I will not buy any Remington again. Screw em.
The contract is for the M2010, 700 action, but everything else is new. Very good sniper rifle.
Color me Rip Van Winkle, but when did the U.S. military become “law enforcement in states that are hostile to the Second Amendment, states like New York?”
will those rifles be for domestic use?
Here is an announcement about a contract they made with the US Government on April 20, 2012 for the procurement of a maximum of 120,000 M4/M4A1 carbines by the US Army.
The Army has initially ordered 24,000 M4A1 carbines from Remington; deliveries will start in September, 2013
The company has had a history of large government contracts for weapons. They are the oldest company of it’s type in the US.
They have also had a history of financial problems. Feast or famine type production really hurts a company that is heavily dependent on government contract.
They consolidated their Marlin production in upstate NY. Their headquarters are in NC.
So, it appears they have a large Government Contract with delivery scheduled to begin in September. And now this new contract for $80 million over 10 years.
My conclusion is that this had NOTHING to do with the gun legislation, but was due to a shift from civilian to military production by the ownership (Freedom Group).
I do not work in this industry, but it looks like their focus is military now.
while the ground the plant stands on is now openly hostile to freedom
Sorry - business is business - I dont do business with people that support abortion either - as the politics dont match my own. If remington chooses to do business with people that take away my freedoms, I no longer do business with them
period
I read that the same way as you did.
The plant is in NY, the buyer is the US military.
“U.S. Representative Richard Hanna today announced that Remington Arms has been awarded a nearly $80 million contract to produce more than 5,000 sniper rifles for the U.S. military.”
Did you read that sentence in your post to its end? That whole “U.S. military” thing? Do tell how, exactly, U.S. military is New York State law enforcement?
Ubama bribed them.
I am not defending them.
I simply do not believe the gun grab is the reason they are expanding in upstate NY.
Yes, I have heard the Savage bolt action rifles are very good. I have not bought a new rifle in a long time. But made a commitment in January to beef up my reloading equipment and supplies. That is almost all in place. Do I expect to need it? Not sure. But I think I will be able to reload what I have and hunt if I need to.
There is a great rumbling in the ether. I smell the scent. This summer will not be without gatherings.
