PAUL: Immigration reform starts with a secure border
Washington Times ^ | April 12, 2013 | Rand Paul

Congress is getting very close to debating comprehensive immigration reform. I am firmly committed to being part of reforming our nation’s immigration laws. Conservatives and liberals agree that our complex immigration system is broken and in need of repair. Although the two sides disagree on solutions, I have three important ideas that should be part of the debate and that should please most Americans.

My “Trust but Verify” plan has three elements: secure the border, secure the vote and secure the taxpayer’s dollar. If these three elements are met, I think, Congress can move forward on a comprehensive plan to reform immigration law.

Securing the border is my first priority. Under my plan, national and border security will move as the first element of any reform and would require annual votes of Congress to establish that the border is truly secure. No other reform can go forward until this happens. In addition to increased border security, our nation needs to modernize our visa system. We need to know who comes and goes on travel, student and other temporary visas. There must be a workable system to ensure that visitors don’t use travel visas as a way to enter the country, then disappear. This will address the problem of visa overstayers.

National security has to be a cornerstone to any border-security and visa-reform initiative. Our nation needs to look back at the 9/11 Commission report and study the recommendations with regard to terrorists’ use of visas to commit acts of violence against America. The Sept. 11 hijackers used visas to enter the country and to stay here while planning their attacks.

Still slightly better than Rubio. Not as good as Cruz. JMO.

Here’s a lengthy interview of him with a WNDtv reporter asking several questions.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjezuKG1jW0

My impression of the gist of his take on all this is that he’s STAKED to the mythical “close the border” thing that will never happen in a Democrat Administration, and then a vaguery of “normalization” “processing” and other code-words for capitulation that ends in the crapall canard of “they only want to do the jobs Americans won’t do”...citing the agricultural labor problem...

Screw him. I’ll never vote for him for anything.

Agreed. I’ll agree with him on this point where he’s correct and I’ll disagree where he’s incorrect.

If he could refine his idea of amnesty down to a specific minimal group it might be acceptable. (I’m thinking about those who have no ties to Mexico)

Dunno.
Wouldn’t do it by country - that violates at least one Amendment.
However, I would consider limiting it to illegal aliens who are self-supporting and have no other offenses than their presence in this country. (Being deported and coming backing counts another offense...)
That should eliminate the VAST majority of them.
IN any case, “comprehensive reform” needs to go in the waste bin. This should be one done step by step. Step 1 is “Secure the effin’ border.”
And not statistically by reducing enforcement so that arrests fall off. Which, last time I checked, is one of the things they tried doing.

I’ll probably stand with Rand as my dream of rounding them all up and kicking them out is just not going to happen.

12 million foreigners are crossing the borders demanding benefits and handouts and their “rights”.

Can you name one othe country that would welcome them as “immigrants” rather than as invaders?

Ancient Rome might have, but then how did that work out for them?

These are not “immigrants” they are criminal invaders who should get NO benefits whatsoever.

Technically amnesty is given for humanitarian reasons or in criminal cases for turning state’s evidence as part of a plea deal.

Maybe its time to ask them what they have to offer in return for amnesty since they are committing a crime.

If I understand the enemy correctly, they feel that illegals offer tax revenue and some degree of continuity for the nation.
We have slaughtered our children and our birth rate is below the replacement level. Immigrants and their children are only the ones keeping us with a positive growth. The ruling class is hoping and praying (to whatever it is they worship) that the children of illegal aliens grow up to be worthwhile taxpayers so that they can support us old farts when SS revenues drop below SS payments.
Then, of course, they sabotage this hope with the horror that the current education system is...

Securing of the border is a myth that will never happen. Both parties actually want an open border for different reasons. The Reps want cheap labor for their corporate contributors and the Dems want poor people they can exploit to stay in office. Neither side wants a strong enforceable e-verify system because that would actually solve the problem. The Republicans will become a permanent minority party for their part in this charade. At least 10% of the Republican base will abandon the party forever, and 70% of the illegal aliens who follow the “path to citizenship” will vote Democratic. Game over, the country will be irrevocable changed into a European socialist system.

Well, I cannot dispute the reality of what you say. I am ashamed to say this is no longer the country in which I grew up.

It is a lopsided exchange where my outlook on how I feel about here has been traded for a Wookie who now feels “she is proud of her country for the first time.”

You are correct. If any of these politicians have any doubts they need only to look at California. I don’t believe that they are that stupid so they must be Duplicitous. I am not giving any of them the benefit of the doubt.

Long borders are hard to protect and will always leak to some degree. Besides, they can fly in a planes and never leave.

That’s why there should NEVER be amnesty.

Earth to Rand Paul and Marco Rubio:

"Our" immigration system is NOT broken, except in DC, it is not enforced!

The truth is DC has NEVER intended on enforcing it but continuing encouraging illegal aliens to illegally cross our borders while looking the other way, refusing to guard our border as is demanded in our Constitution, the refusing to enforce the laws of checking on businesses that have hired illegal aliens using stolen IDs, including mine.

If I steal your ID I go to prison for a lengthy time, if an illegal steals or buys mine, they get a "king's X!"

I'm sick of Paul, Rubio and anyone else purporting to be "strong" on border enforcement yet demanding new laws to "fix our broken immigration system!"

It's NOT broken, like most other of our laws that DC refuses to enforce, they only write them to look "tough on crime" yet never enforce, then claim "we need 'new laws' to fix a broken......"

Enforce the law on the books, called "Simpson/Mazzoli" from 1986 that tricked Ronald Reagan to agreeing to give amnesty to 1.5 million illegal aliens when in fact that 1.5 illegal aliens turned into over 3 million. What DC and the media is now claiming to be 11 million (down from what they used to say was between 12 to 20 million) will be at least 3 times as much, plus those streaming across now as we speak telling border patrol agents when caught, "Obama will let me stay!"

Nah Rand, it ain’t eye surgery. If you hire them, they will come.

Refusal to hire is the best border security. Of course, that means cutting off a supply of cheap labor. But security does not come cheap.

If you read his plan and think about it, he has some good ideas. A secure border with annual check that enforcement is being done, drivers licences only for legal residents & citizens [realID], voting & vote registering only with realID, track all visa entries and exits [look for & deport violators], no welfare for immigrants [get a job], employers do ID checks and no amnesty until all listed is done for the program and for each individual immigrant.

The problem with Rand’s ideas is Congress & presidents will welsh on the deal.

Know who one of the principal player was that destroyed Simpson/Mazzoli as well as Prop 187 in Calif?
Cesar Conda, Rubio’s chief of staff, along with Grover Norquist. We are being PLAYED! Again
