Rand Paul forces suffer setback vs. GOP establishment

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — In the GOP’s ongoing establishment vs. grassroots saga, chalk one up for the establishment.

Since Mitt Romney’s loss, the Rand Paul wing of the party has been on the ascendency. But libertarians hit a roadblock Friday as the Republican National Committee opted at its spring meeting to keep in place a host of rules rammed through by the Romney campaign at last year’s national convention.

The move represents at least a small setback to Rand Paul’s 2016 hopes, potentially making it more difficult for him or another candidate with strong grassroots support to pick up delegates. Had the rules been in effect last year — they were adopted after Mitt Romney secured the nomination — the former Massachusetts governor would likely have wrapped up the nomination much earlier and avoided the drawn-out warfare that weakened him heading into the general election against Barack Obama.

Somehow I don't believe Rand Paul is the ONLY grassroots candidate they're worried about.

Plus, this is more about the coronation of Jeb . If they try to finagle a way to prevent true Conservative like Cruz or Palin from running, or even a 88% like Rand or Walker, in order to ensure that we only get to vote for the GOPe candidate they pre-select, then I am done with the GOP forever.

I held my nose for mittens. Never again.

Correct.

They’re only using the tired old Alinsky tactic of trying to attach everything they oppose to Rand Paul because they know he can be a divisive figure among conservatives. They did the same during the GOP convention but used Ron Paul as the target.

I personally agree with Rand Paul on some things and disagree with him on others.

Yep, they're scared of any potential insurgent TEA Party challenger, whether it's Rand Paul or Sarah Palin. It's why Team Romney, Boehner, Priebus, Barbour, and Rove engaged in those well documented shenanigans last August in Tampa Bay:

We’ve got to put conservatives on the RNC. We managed to sneak one on the committee in Michigan and they’re desperately trying to destroy him. (A few FR “concern” trolls are on board with the attack too)

Earth to RNC. So we’ll just stay home instead.

Don’t get your panties in a wad. Politics is like a river. It never stops flowing.

I remember how upset we all were here on FR when the new “RULES” were shoved down our throats.

I have come to the conclusion that the GOPe would rather LOSE every election from now on, and be extinguished, rather than EVER becoming more conservative, and extracting America from the pit.

It is heartbreaking.

Never again for me either. A third party is on the way and the RNC will either have to deal with it and cross endorsement or go down in flames.

We only lost on rule 16 by something like 3 votes. That means all we need to do is get 3 more conservatives on the committee to win it next time around.

“I held my nose for mittens. Never again. “

In 08 I held my nose for McCain. Said, doesn’t matter what he is as long as he isn’t a “D”. I defended that on these boards for 4 years.

Then came Mitt. I said, well he isn’t a “D” and we have to take Obama down so it became “Anyone but Obama.”

In 2016 I am voting for the candidate I think can save the country. I don’t care what they have next to their names. But I can guarantee 2 things. The first is it will not be a Democrat and the second is it will not be an establishment Republican.

Astute observation: More of US should look to control the anxiety we encounter:

Anxiety Management: learning how to move anxiety to the time we can do something about it, removing the current stress which is higher until we can form a way to eliminate or minimize the problem.....(this time the corrupt administration of Obama)

I personally can’t understand why conservatives don’t just change the RNC. Its the lowest possible bar to overcome. In Michigan it only took some 300 votes at the state convention to remove the old guard and put a conservative on the RNC.

would likely have wrapped up the nomination much earlier

The GOP primary process is already irrelevant in several late-primary states.

Romney (and McCain in 2008) had the nomination wrapped up weeks before my state primary.

Ending the primary season earlier might be okay, if more 'super Tuesdays' are set up so all states can vote before the process is locked up.

Rand Paul forces suffer setback vs. GOP establishment

I get a lot of solicitations from the "GOP establishment", but I want to put them on notice that they won't get one red cent from me. Apparently, under folks like Juan McLame, Light in the loafers Lindsey, Isaksonofabitch and others, they feel the best course is to assist emperor 0bama and become the "democRAT light" party.

The rule changes were the last straw for me. I have denounced being a republican and state the reasons why when they come a calling for $$$.

If the GOP had worked with the libertarians Obama would have been defeated. Screw you GOP!

I personally like the idea of 5 ten state primary dates on a rotation.

2 east coast states, 2 west coast states, 2 southern states, 2 northern states, and 2 central states would all vote the same day on a random rotation pulled out of a hat for each presidential primary.

Yes, the GOP has managed to alienate libertarians AND social conservatives at the same time. That takes talent.
