NORTH KOREA has warned Japan that Tokyo would be the first target in the event of a war on the Korean Peninsula, as it increased threats of an attack.
In a commentary carried by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), the communist country lashed out at Tokyo's standing orders to destroy any missile heading toward Japan, threatening such actions will result in a nuclear attack against the island nation.
If Japan executes its threat to shoot down any North Korean missile, such a provocative intervention would see Tokyo an enormous conurbation of 30 million people consumed in nuclear flames, KCNA warned.
Japan is always in the cross-hairs of our revolutionary army and if Japan makes a slightest move, the spark of war will touch Japan first, the report added.
An official at Japans defence ministry said that the country will take every possible measure to respond to any scenario, while the US Secretary of State John Kerry warned that a North Korean missile launch would be a huge mistake.
The rhetoric that we are hearing from North Korea is simply unacceptable by any standards, he told a news conference in Seoul alongside South Korean Foreign Minister Yun Byung-Se.
The United States, South Korea and the entire international community are all united in the fact that North Korea will not be accepted as a nuclear power, Kerry added.
However, the North has declared it is "confident of final victory" against its enemies.
"The enemies should know that it is the era of the great Marshal Kim Jong Un, leader of the most powerful country and invincible great Paektusan nation," KCNA stated.
"The DPRK has won victories in confrontation with the U.S. in spirit and is waging an all-out action with it, with confidence in final victory."
The torrent of war cries is seen outside Pyongyang as an effort to raise fears and pressure Seoul and Washington into changing their North Korea policies, and to show the North Korean people that their young leader is strong enough to stand up to powerful foes.
South Korea fears Pyongyang could launch now launch multiple missiles after weeks of threats, according to local reports.
Observers believe a launch is most likely in the build-up to Mondays anniversary of the birth of late founder Kim Il-Sung, for which celebrations are already well under way in Pyongyang.
The Korean Peninsula has "been reduced to the biggest nuclear hotspot in the world", the North said in more fiery rhetoric today, "making the outbreak of a nuclear war on this land unavoidable."
The reclusive state is dedicated to "defending the sovereignty and dignity of the country with its own strike mode and means," it said.
"No force on earth can block the just cause of the army and people of the DPRK," the chilling message concluded.
These kinds of Nork statements are largely for domestic proles’ consumption. The Norks can’t possibly believe that if they shoot a first missile towards Japan, and Japan shoots that missile down, that the shooting-down is a provocation meriting a nuclear response. Ludicrous. “How dare you defend yourself from our missiles? Now we nuke you.”
I’m increasingly of the opinion we need to focus on Regime Change in Norktown. Work at the highest levels with China, Japan, ROK and Russia on how to do it with the least casualties, how to deal with refugees and starvation/ thirst/ medical care, and set up a “Germany after WW2” split government for 20 years, then hold a plebiscite. But enough already with the Krazy Kim Klan.
“Once they consider that their protection is ensured by Obama and Kerry, I think that they will discover the need for their own nukes.”
I agree, but the Japanese constitution prohibits nuclear weapons. On the other hand, they may consider it a “living document.” In any case, I’m fairly certain the Israelis and Indians see it in their interest to assist Japan, South Korea and Taiwan. I’m expecting that Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and India and perhaps Israel will form a treaty organization to fill the power vacuum created by Obama. The US has lost much influence in the area.
I hope they wait until after Obon.
Let’s say NK actually launches a missile. It takes off and goes out of control for whatever reason. Then it crashes into a Japanese city, town or village, though it was not targeted. What happens next?.........
Because of all the innocent people and potential radioactive fallout?
So N. Korea sees Japan’s committment to defend itself as “provocative” and “threatening”.
Boy, sure glad our gov’t doesn’t think like that.
Unless it explodes or actually kills someone, probably nothing. The last time NK did this, a missile landed on Japanese soil and nothing came of it.
When did that happen?........I remember one flew over Japan and entered their airspace, but landed in the Pacific somewhere........
2009. Not all the parts fell into the ocean
I hate to be redundant, but this all makes sense from the standpoint of Obama wanting retribution on the US.
China is behind this, and NK is their proxy. Japan and SK will go, which leaves Taiwan all by it’s lonesome.
There will be a China-Russia axis, and instead of worrying about a West/East European block, all of Europe will fall under that axis, and they’ll go without a shot.
You know what the bankrupt countries of Europe are all saying about Germany and the US right now? We planned this as a bloodless way of taking over their countries. I’m not kidding. I have a family member in Greece, and they see all of this austerity business as invasion by other means.
That Un used the word ‘unavoidable’ should have put all the news stations on a war footing, and we should be at Defcon 2 right now. Our planes should be in the air.
The thing that pissed FDR off the most was hearing that MacArthur allowed the Japanes to bomb our airfields with our planes on the deck. Oddly, two generals got fired for this, but somehow he managed not to.
Bill Clinton was seen crying and mumbling to himself over and over “Why couldn’t this have happened when I was getting a b....I mean, when I was president.”
Dammit Kim... DON’T bother with Japan. Drop a fat one on the Capitol building in DC.
Just as Messrs. Obama and Hagel cut the Precision Tracking Space System completely out of the budget:

“Hillary Rodman Clinton, right?”
No, I think that’s Dennis Rodney King “Can’t we all just get along?”
Lots of rumors that Japan was doing weaponized research at the #4 reactor in Fukushima Daiichi. That reactor had multiple strange fires and events even though no fuel was loaded at the time of the earthquake. So their program capabilities might be severely curtailed since many of their reactors are shutdown. Someone in North Korea intelligence has determined the Japanese are currently weak for some reason.
Just send this clown to the recycle bin. How much longer of his garbage?
I came to that conclusion as well. China will let them go after Japan.
I don’t think they actually will let anything happen. I just believe that the DPRK believes it. (previous comment was attempting to see the view of the DPRK). I believe China needs stability and the DPRK is testing the waters.
Think about their series of threats.
First they officially declared the cease fire over with the South. Nothing happened.
Then they openly threatened us (posting pictures of US targets). Nothing happened.
Now they are threatening Japan.
I think they are seeing who they can provoke to take preemptive action for some reason. Maybe they think China won’t turn on them if they are attacked first. Of they are just seeing who may pay them off.
Right. It is sad though that he is mouthing off so much and no one seems to be doing anything about it. Yet.
