Citing the recent controversy over his comments on same-sex marriage, neurosurgeon and rising conservative star Dr. Benjamin Carson has voluntarily stepped down as commencement speaker at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.
The Baltimore Sun reported that Carson, who heads the department of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital, informed medical school Dean Paul B. Rothman in a letter that he didn't want to "distract from the celebratory nature of the day."
"Given all the national media surrounding my statements as to my belief in traditional marriage, I believe it would be in the best interest of the students for me to voluntarily withdraw as your commencement speaker this year," Carson notes in the letter to Rothman who later shared it with the Johns Hopkins community.

So....these students are graduating from a medical school having not learned what body part goes where?
Your family was blessed!
To #14. Johns Hopkins Un. has no shame. A blatant promoter of anti-semitism in the 1930’s, to marxism (Owen Lattimore, Soviet asset), to crucifying one of their Hospitals’ preeminent surgeons in an act defiling the First Amendment and loaded with latent liberal racism against any black thinking man.
Have I left out anything?
High achieving people learn to stay out of the spotlight given the tactics of the radical left in their character assignations of those who, to their minds, should be working the liberal plantation fields.
The good Dr, Ben just learned a valuable lesson about the left.
I did not know that. Thanks.
It is sad the reaction has been the reaction which has been for Dr. Benjamin Carson is not only a good man ... Dr. Benjamin Carson is a Statesman.
Get over thinking candidates will fulfill your perfect high standards to receive your vote. At least stop tearing down the best people we have on the Republican/conservative/constitutional/ side of being smart, informed, able to speak well before audiences, having lived a positive life, and loving God and declares it to all they meet. MOO
Dr. Carson is able and articulate, and not a liberal, or Marxist, or progressive and ignorant of history of the world.
Socialism has failed every time ... everytime it has been attempted. It fails. No matter the nations trying to make it work.
Socialism does not work. Soon the workers see the people not working ARE taking the money from the people that do work and these workers decide to be on the taking end of the monies instead of being on the giving end.
SOON ALL ARE BROKE!
SOCIALISM ENCOURAGES NOT WORKING ...EVER.
I don’t ask for a lot, but if the backbone isn’t strong, all the other qualities are useless. Sort of like a Constitution minus the Second Amendment.
Let us support our best. We need them to not be overwhelmed by the dark side of our enemies. MOO!
Your conclusion presumes the truthfulness of the school's statement, which should not be considered a "given".
Maybe Carson should demand that no one who doesn’t share his beliefs bother him about being taught neurosurgery.
Maybe you don’t recall what he said when this subject first came up a month or so ago. He said he’d have to be *publicly* disinvited before he backed down. I must have missed the story where the school did that. Do you have a link?
My statement about principle minus backbone stands.
What good is it if he’s on the side of the angels but he won’t stand up to the devil?
I was responding to your statement, which didn’t use the word “publicly”; I haven’t been following this closely enough to know details to that level.
Really, I just wanted to interject that taking the word of the college’s spokesman for granted wasn’t necessarily safe from a logic perspective. Nothing particular about this case or Johns Hopkins, even.
Warriors don't begin by being that strong do they? First comes life experiences, and having a belief system, drawing the line and announcing it is not okay to cross the line, ... as repercussions will be immediate and strong.
Dr. Carson being a brain surgeon does deal with the people regarding his profession. Most are not willing to destroy their profession over politics. They are not mutually exclusive. Most keep religion, and politics, separate from professional life. He does surgery on people needing his skill, not on liberals, libertarians, republicans, democrats, etc. _____________________________________________________________ Dr. Carson is a conservative and we must not divide our self as a party or we are totally lost. There are many issues upon which most disagree, as we see in the news everyday.
You are trying to pick apart and parse his promise to force the college to disinvite him, but it won’t work. He failed to stand up to the gay parade, and that’s the end of it for me.
I am not going to support someone who is likely to fold up his tent and cave when we need him the most. As much as I love Sarah Palin, she has the same problem.
As for growth and change, when people get to be 40-50 years old I don’t see much change, they’re pretty well set unless some trauma occurs.
One of the strengths of the progressive liberals is they unite and support their own ... no matter what. ALWAYS!
Republicans on the other hand eat their own. And are quick to get away from them, we are not forgiving, and so we divide and it comes down to numbers ...
UNITED WE STAND
DIVIDED WE FALL
It WOULD BE GREAT TO win AND HAVE A rEPUBLICAN pRESIDENT!
hOW IS THAT GOING TO HAPPEN? lOOKS LIKE IT WON’T!
I’ll be glad to stand with conservatives, but they have to also stand on their own. I can’t hold them up if they won’t do it themselves.
