The ACLU has obtained internal IRS documents that say Americans enjoy "generally no privacy" in their e-mail messages, Facebook chats, and other electronic communications.
The Internal Revenue Service doesn't believe it needs a search warrant to read your e-mail.
Newly disclosed documents prepared by IRS lawyers say that Americans enjoy "generally no privacy" in their e-mail, Facebook chats, Twitter direct messages, and similar online communications -- meaning that they can be perused without obtaining a search warrant signed by a judge.
That places the IRS at odds with a growing sentiment among many judges and legislators who believe that Americans' e-mail messages should be protected from warrantless search and seizure. They say e-mail should be protected by the same Fourth Amendment privacy standards that require search war

I dont use my real name in setting up my email accounts so good luck with using those. I never trusted the internet.
And someone can follow your mail carrier around the sub division and stop at your mailbox immediately after it is deposited there and take it. It does not mean the addressee had no right to expect privacy.
If I ever get caught up in this with the IRS, I’m gonna fight it in court, hopefully getting some actual names of the IRS people involved.
Welcome to the USSA, comrades.

I thought the new rules were that if you had ever taken meds for mental issues, you lost all rights. 2nd., 1st. etc. What does it matter? If your 2nd. Amendment rights can be taken away, why can’t they all be taken away???
I’m shocked, shocked I say to learn that the IRS is not following the rule of law and is not our friend.
They can snoop through everything about us, and we aren’t even allowed to see Ubama’s real birth certificate or Social Security Number.
The assclown and his cabal have worked to destroy the 1st amendment, 2nd, and now 4th.

My point exactly.
Equating open communications like FB and Twitter to private channel communications like email is NOT a good thing.
Bingo! Is there anything about him that is real? Sometimes, I wonder if he is like that creation from WWII - The Man Who Never Was.
Actually, they are right. At least, so far as this tiny quote goes. You have no expectation of privacy when you send an email. Under the law, it is viewed differently than a letter, because a letter takes so much more effort to reproduce and send on to others.
If the IRS is saying they are allowed to monitor and scan every email in the US at all times, that is different. But if you email someone boasting of cheating on your taxes, you are taking a chance that email will be used as evidence. And if you post stuff on Facebook...you have no privacy rights. Just as you have no privacy rights to signs you post in your yard for others to read.
I am very careful about using my name and info on any webpage, and certainly not public posts like these not even facebook, and all my email accounts are free with madeup names.
But its my iphone 5 where I am the most careful, nothing identifying goes on that. No online banking.
Want privacy? Then encrypt your emails and even more important make sure your computer is virus protected or everything could be shared on it.
How is the IRS accessing this anyway?
