ABU DHABI Kuwait has reported the theft of a massive amount of U.S. weapons.
The Interior Ministry said thieves broke into a warehouse and stole a huge amount of firearms and ammunition. The ministry said 20,000 U.S.-origin M-16 assault rifles and 15,000 rounds for 9mm pistols were stolen. There were no guards during the break-in, the ministry said on April 7.

Since AKs are generally available to al Qaeda for about $50/ea., Im curious who the eventual recipients of these weapons is. The weapons were obviously sold by corrupt officers. The war in Syria will take all the weapons you can send in; also, Iraq and Afghanistan will absorb a lot more. Africa will gladly take more weapons than you can offer, and African warlords have lots of money (from piracy, from diamonds, etc.)
Even if each M-16 is sold for the same $50 as a poorly made AK, it becomes a million dollars. More than enough money in that to pay the Kuwaiti officer who failed to order the warehouse guarded. But those rifles are more accurate than a generic AK, so they will find use among longer distance operators, and the price can be easily $500 and higher. The profit from the theft suddenly becomes $10M, and it's very good money for sending a few trucks into an unguarded and unmonitored warehouse.

Suppose one of these rifles turns up in Chicago? Personally, I’d love to see all the finger pointing that would ensue.

Maybe the gunrunners are stocking up for what they perceive to be a future blackmarket in the US.

Can’t wait to see the results of the background checks. Oh, they probably don’t do those there. Coming soon to a back alley in chi-town.

Got to wonder if this has ties to the rumored Benghazi gun running. If guns were being run they had to come from somewhere.

The warehouse was not guarded????
Thanks to our wonderful congress, it’ll soon be easier for a Kuwaiti to steal a full-auto M16 than it is for the average American to buy a hunting rifle.

Thanks for this thread! This is so sweet in so many ways. This thread is better to me than meself. Would offer an explanation but I had nothing to do with this. I do know this the 30-06 semi is not a match. Have to believe these were full auto. Okay ... Congress ... What are you gonna do? Twiddle your thumbs? I thought so!
