Thats what Rep. Alan Grayson, D-Fla., said in a press call today hosted by the Progressive Change Campaign Committee regarding the presidents new budget proposal.
The call, which also featured Rep. Keith Ellison, D-Minn., was intended to be a warning to the administration to back away from the budgets modest entitlement reforms. Grayson argued they could doom the party by undercutting its rhetoric on entitlements:
Based upon the budget the Republicans submitted, the [Paul] Ryan budget, it was pretty clear up until this point that the Republicans were the party in favor of cutting Social Security, cutting Medicare, cutting Medicaid, and the Democrats were the party against it.
Now, with the presidents proposal, we face the threat that we will be stigmatized as the party that kind-of is for it and kind-of is against it, kind of depending on circumstances. Kind of, kind of, kind of
Asked by the Daily Beasts Lloyd Grove if they thought the presidents budget was an effort at Bill Clinton-style triangulation, Ellison conceded that maybe that was the case as he put it: the president is going to the center, counting on us to be loud on the left but that liberals like himself had no choice but to oppose it anyway.
Grayson added that this is not some Sistah Souljah Moment, okay? He argued:
With regard to whether the president actually somehow will benefit from this politically, I think that is completely wrong. I think that not only will the president fail to benefit from this politically but it could end up dragging down the entire party, depending upon exactly how this unfolds.
You may recall that I lost my election two years ago and 62 other members of the House who were Democrats lost their elections two years ago because the Republicans took a shot at convincing the public that Obamacare was in fact a cut in Medicare.
Now, in essence, what is happening is that the president is potentially handing the Republicans the same weapon to use against us in 2014 that they used so effectively and dishonestly against us in 2010. So I think that politically it is a horrible move.
I think youll be able to see that in the polling. Im sure that there will polling that comes down in the next couple of weeks. I dont think the presidents numbers are going to move up. Im pretty sure the presidents numbers are going to move down. What I am hoping is that the Democratic Partys numbers dont move down in concert with what I expect to see with the presidents numbers.

No Grayson it was because you are a mental case and the democrats sucked on every issue.
from your moth to God’s ears, ha ha
The only effective weapon the Democrats have found to use against us in off-year elections (Non presidential elections) is the accusation that the Republican party is overrun with homosexuals.
It really worked or them in 2006. They're going to try it this time as well.
OK who did it..who left the door to the looney bin open allowing Grayson to get out..next time, use a dead bolt lock
It's really amazing, isn't it? The Republicans, too, are far from blameless: Romney was proof of the party-elite kicking the rest under the bus. -- So we can't fault them too much w/o having to fault ourselves.
I've never in my 81 years seen such stupidity. Before King Obama was elected I said, based on observations, that 2/3 of Americans are about as dumb as a box of rocks when it come to their Country.
I blame the Judiciary a lot; it is they who declare that the Constitution doesn't mean what it says (and have since at least 1919), but they do so with an air of legitimacy.
Still I bet that half of that are still fools.
More than a little of that is due to the public schoosl indoctrination-centers.
Grayson is not my House rep....he is in the district next to mine
Grayson got back in Congress because he campaigned for the English speaking GOP candidate in a Spanish speaking district. Grayson’s district pretty much created by the retard Florida GOP.....district is non-English speaking and black ghetto areas predominantly.....with some areas of middle class where the criminals can loot
If it's not Ø-centered, then it's party-centered. Never, never, ever, is it country-centered.
Ruh Roh -
“....could end up dragging down the entire party....”
Gosh, I hope it does.
Democrats take a hit like they did in 2010, and the Maximum Leader of the Current Regime becomes one of the lamest ducks in history.
When it comes to short-term holding strategy, gridlock is good.
Hey Alan!
His policies are killing the entire country!
Why are you only concerned with your “party”???
One can only wish. I believe Grayson is being way too optimistic here.
he lost because he lied. “women submit to you man “ quote was played in his ad failing to give the entire quote of his opponent.
From his lips to God’s ear.
Never thought I’d say that about crazy Al.
Obama’s....chickens....are....coming....home....to......roost.
“the accusation that the Republican party is overrun with homosexuals.”
Which is one of my pet conspiracy theories. Homosexuals decided to infiltrate the Republican Party in order to discredit it in the eyes of conservative Christians. They ran for office, took jobs as aids to politicians, etc. to destroy the party from within.
I thought they joined up due to less competition (of their kind) and the opportunity to affect legislation dealing with TAXES and AIDS
Maybe the first statement Grayson has made that indicates some semblance of cogent reasoning, but it is illustrative that his concern if for the Demmunist party and not the country.
Alan Grayson is an ANTI-CHRISTIAN.
Yo, nutball, honey badger don't care and neither do 0bama.
