Kerry to seek diplomatic off-ramp for North Korea
WASHINGTON (CNN) When he visits Asia later this week, Secretary of State John Kerry will discuss potential diplomatic incentives for North Korea once it stops its bellicose rhetoric and threatening behavior, senior administration officials tell CNN.
Officials warn any resumption of talks with North Korea is premature, and could only come once Pyongyang adheres to its international obligations. But they say Kerry hopes the new emphasis on diplomacy will give the North Koreans a face-saving way to de-escalate the current situation.

P!
Exactly the wrong approach for the US to take.
Kinda' give ya' a warm and fuzzy feeling, don't it?
Sure...why not....Russia, Japan, China, South Korea, Taiwan won't mind....It's only in their backyard.
Bet Putin is fuming....
Remember, The USA missed the fact that North Korea was developing nuclear weapons at all under Bubba. The Bush Adminstration caught the NK liars.
Great idea, Frenchie...save their face, lose ours.....I see it now....more rice for less threats.
Maybe he can get a paper cut and apply for another Purple Heart.
hummmm! just how many years, how many administrations have been looking for this so called “off ramp?”
The only difference, as I see it, is that the Republicans have insisted on multi-lateral dealing with NK - that is, including other threatened nations of the region.
The Democrats have always wanted bi-lateral - NK/USA.
I never have understood the pros and cons of using one over the other - other than the democrats always have a hidden agenda floating around that I would probably not like.
off-ramp
Is this another cutsie phrase from zeros admin? They have so many.
Douche bags everywhere are thrilled that kerry has got the situation firmly under control.
Kerry figures the “crisis” can be “settled” with about $100 million in additional aid to Kim and his goons. Soon Kerry will calm the North Korean tantrum with cash. In case anyone has forgotten, Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan are long gone. We are now governed by politically correct agitated wimps. Pity the world.
They’re going to give the fat boy a candy bar to get him to shut up.
This line right here is a PIPE DREAM. Have they honored any obligations or kept their word (all this while they were developing a nuke program despite publicly saying they would abandon), in the last 60 years of tyranny and shakedowns? What makes you think they will "adhere to its international obligations"? How absolutely FOOLISH!!!! Would you expect a puppy to "adhere to not peeing on the floor" before being house broken? You can wish and wish and wish, but the puppy would still do what it would do, true to its nature.
At this high level of diplomacy, it is amazing how naive they can become, how susceptible to nuclear blackmail and appeasement. It just turns my stomach because I know the script in advance, I know the press releases down to the worlds, which the State Department will release after claiming "victory" and a ratchet down of tensions. DPRK will be bought off until the next round of escalation and using that which we buy them off, they will only increase their arsenal more behind out backs. Absolutely ZERO CREDIBLITY.
Just write him a check and he’ll shut up. Until he runs out of money again.
It’s a protection racket.
Diplomatic translation: This is a concession pure and simple. Kerry is going to reward NK for its bellicose behavior and rhetoric. We can expect more rewards in the form of aid and other tributes. And when you reward something, you get more of it.
You and I are in full agreement. These saps never learn. They go antsy and screw up again. The Fat Boy in Pyongyang roars and they cower. This is a farce to the highest degree.
Maybe Kerry will let Kim feel the rice in his ass. That’s about these character’s speed.
Naive? Give me a break. It has absolutely nothing to do with being naive. This is just kicking the can down the road knowing full well it will erupt sometime in the future, hopefully on someone else's watch. This is all about US domestic politics, the prism thru which Obama views foreign policy.
DIPLOMATIC INCENTIVES??!!! Ugh.
