This is one for the “too stupid to survive” files: US Army Labeled Evangelicals, Catholics as Examples of Religious Extremism.
When I first saw the headline, I assumed it must all be a little less obviously bone-crushingly stupid or at any rate more nuanced once you got into the story. But I invite you to look at the accompanying poster for the Equal Opportunity training brief issued by the Army Reserve in Pennsylvania. It lists “extremist” groups, starting with “Evangelical Christianity” at Number One, “Al Quaeda” (misspelled under any Roman rendering of Arabic) at Number Five, “Hamas” at Six, and “Catholicism” rounding out the Top Ten.
Think of the number of people involved in the creation, printing and distribution of this graphic – and along the way not one of them stopped to say, “Hey, this is totally dumb.”

Army spokesman George Wright told Fox News that this was an "isolated incident not condoned by the Dept. of the Army."
“This slide was not produced by the Army and certainly does not reflect our policy or doctrine,” he said. “It was produced by an individual without anyone in the chain of command’s knowledge or permission.”
"Wright said after the complaint was lodged, the presenter deleted the slide, and apologized.
“We consider the matter closed,” he said.
According to the report, the female Army presenter got her information from the Southern Poverty Law Center. A SPLC spokesman denied that the Center has any such list.
It is a pathetic time in the United States when, after reading this story, the question one asks himself is, "Which one, of the military, the SPLC or the media, do I believe less?
Notice also that ‘Islamaphobia’ has been elevated from being just a psychological condition to a full-flown religion!
Even sadder is what is missing from the list: Black Panthers, ELF, ALF, Occupy Wall Street.
Notice that this article leaves out other instances like this, such as Director of Terrorism Studies at the Combating Terrorism Center at the U.S. Military Academy Arie Perliger’s “Challengers from the Sidelines: Understanding America’s Violent Far-Right” and “Strategic Implications of American Millennialism” by Major Brian L. Stuckert. This is war on Christians by the US military.
