AN HONEST DOUBTER
The often heard quip, "He or she is a doubting Thomas," usually is given in a negative way...someone who can't get with the program or is not a team player. The origin of this statement goes to the passage in John's Gospel. Thomas, who somehow missed the first appearance of the resurrected Jesus to the rest of the disciples, states he will not believe until he sees and touches the Lord. He is a realist, a man who is shattered in his faith after witnessing the arrest and death of Jesus. He is honest enough to admit it, stating clearly his needs. When we go through traumatic experiences, and are shaken to the very fiber of our being, we need special reassurance. Although Jesus says to Thomas, "Stop doubting and have faith," notice He still meets Thomas where he needs it most, and in a manner just right for us. We must be honest about our need for Him, admitting our doubts and lack of faith. Unlike pop psychology our strength does not come from within us, but from outside from the God who knows best. "Come and experience, and go forth in faith to love and serve the Lord."

The Lords Prayer Andrea Bocelli (Click)
DEAR LORD, who suffered torment, agony, and death upon the Cross to free our souls from the chains of iniquity, protect and defend our troops. Guide them in the performance of their duties. Strengthen them to endure hardship, danger and deprivation in Your service. Let their efforts free the people of Iraq and Afghanistan from the chains of terror and slavery, foster a lasting peace in the region, and bring all to a greater share in Your Mercy.
Amen.

A fire burned a fabric shop, upstairs apartments and a neighboring boutique Saturday evening, causing a partial roof collapse that killed a firefighter and injured a colleague who was trying to rescue him, officials said.Captain Michael Goodwin, 53, was killed in the line of duty, Amy Daly, a nursing supervisor at Jefferson University Hospitals, told The Associated Press. Goodwin was a 29-year veteran of the fire department. The second firefighter, 28-year-old Andrew Godlinski, was hospitalized with burns, officials told The Philadelphia Inquirer. Officials say he was injured while trying to rescue Captain Goodwin.
Prayers of peace going out for Captain Goodwin and his family. Prayers also for Firefighter Godlinski and his family.
And prayers for your son and his family, and his Mom, that his chest pains and dizzyness are just minor.

Shaw F-16 pilot dies in Afghanistan
SUMTER, SC (WIS) -
An American F-16 fighter jet from Shaw Air Force Base crashed in eastern Afghanistan Wednesday, killing the U.S. pilot.
Capt. James Michael Steel, 29, of Tampa, Fla., died in the crash near Bagram Airfield, according to the Department of Defense. He was assigned to the 77th Fighter Squadron.
According to Stars and Stripes, the plane was on final approach to land after an air support mission when it crashed about 10 miles from the runway.
Steel graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 2006, completed pilot training and arrived at Shaw in June 2010. He was the chief of mobility for the 77th Fighter Squadron.
"Our condolences and prayers are with the family, friends and squadron members of Capt. Steel," said Col. Clay Hall, 20th Fighter Wing commander. "This is a difficult time for Shaw AFB, but we are focused on taking care of the Steel family, our Airmen and continuing to execute the mission."
Steel comes from a family with deep roots in the Air Force. His father, Maj. Gen. Robert Steel, was commandant of the National War College at Fort McNair in Washington, DC until January of 2011. He spoke at his son's graduation from the 63rd Fighter Squadron in 2009.
Steel's mother and five other siblings all have Air Force ties as well.
NATO said in a statement Thursday that the cause of the crash is still being investigated, but initial reporting indicates that there was "no insurgent activity in the area" when the plane went down.
RIP Captain.
