I will keep this thread updated when more reports come in. The shaking continued, as I wrote, for around a minute. It was one of the longer earthquakes I've experienced. However, our windows didn't rattle, nothing fell off shelves.

The dog was a mite concerned.

I just saw on the map where it was; it appears to be in the middle of the Baliem Valley, on the northern edge of “the highlands”. From that, I’m not expecting any or no damage.

You live in a land made for martinis...always shaken, never stirred. I can't imagine living in place that has that number of earthquakes. It must be "exciting".

You live in the interior jungle.

How cool that must be.

A short update. It’s Sunday morning here. I’ve been scouring reports from people living closer to the epicenter. There is nothing to report. There have been smaller aftershocks, but basically, the jungle has rocked and that is about it. Bear in mind that these places don’t have electricity. There are no roads in or out. No communication unless someone hikes in and out. There are also no pipes to burst, no skyscrapers to fall on one’s head, just trees and mountains and more trees. All that is to say that if someone was injured by the quake, it may be days before we learn of it.

Unless something new is learned, I won’t be updating this thread.
