Songwriter Jimmy Webb never liked this version of his song because he felt that Glen Campbell didnt quite understand the idea that Webb was trying to get across. This version is more like marching off to war and came in at #5 this week.

Mercy! That is a long time to be separated from them...especially as fast as little girls grow up! :)
I guess Skype helps, right? Or Facetime? :)

This was a French song whose tune was taken by Paul Anka who wrote a set of lyrics that had nothing to do with the original French song. It is one of the most recorded songs in history and came in at #41 on its way to the Top 10.

It was indeed like marching off to war and I remember it well - it resounded strongly with me while I was being trained for combat, to which I was soon deployed.
"Galveston, Oh, Galveston! I am so afraid of dying - before I dry the tears she's crying - before I see your sea birds flying in the Sun! At Galveston!"
Jimmy Webb may not have thought much of it - but it meant quite a lot to me and others of my ilk.
Of course, I'm a "New Critic." I don't much care what the author intended to create - I analyze what he in fact created.
"Riamh nár dhruid ó sbairn lann!"
Genuflectimus non ad principem sed ad Principem Pacis!
Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. (Isaiah 49:1 KJV)
