After poor jobs report, politicians trade blame for sequester

After the Labor Department on Friday released a disappointing jobs report for the month of March, the White House, House Speaker John Boehner and other politicians cited the sequestration for the slow economic growth -- and sparked Democrats and Republicans to revive the debate over whom to blame for the spending cuts.

Friday's jobs report showed just 88,000 jobs were created in March -- far fewer than the 175,000-200,000 expected. The unemployment rate fell to 7.6 percent, but that happened largely because 496,000 people simply stopped looking for jobs. The labor force participation rate now stands at 63.3 percent, the lowest level since May 1979.

White House economic adviser Alan Krueger put some positive spin on the report, arguing in a White House blog post that it "provides further evidence that the U.S. economy is continuing to recover from the worst downturn since the Great Depression." He noted the economy has added private sector jobs every month for 37 straight months.

Still, he said, "It is important to bear in mind that the March household and payroll surveys are the first monthly surveys to look at employment since the beginning of sequestration. While the recovery was gaining traction before sequestration took effect, these arbitrary and unnecessary cuts to government services will be a headwind in the months to come, and will cut key investments in the Nation's future competitiveness."

Krueger said the administration "continues to urge Congress to replace the sequester with balanced deficit reduction" -- a goal the White House says has been hampered by Republicans.

Boner is an idiot for even suggesting the sequester is to blame. He should be driving home the impact of Obamacare and say no more. This is a simple strategy that will continue to work through the midterm elections, and it’s factual.

The sequester had nothing to do with the poor jobs report. This is just CBS News attempting to shift the blame for the bad economy to Republicans. To plant the idea in people’s minds that things were getting better till those mean Republicans wouldn’t compromise and forced the sequester on the nation. As usual, the dinosaur media continues to protect their Obama God.

Media: “Spending is good! Not spending is always evil!
... And now a word from our sponsor.”

LOL!

Imagine the media saying: “Be frugal! Don’t overspend! Don’t buy what you dn’t really need!
.. And now a word from- well, we don’t have any sponsors.”

Boehner is a co-opted dork, who is a stalking horse for statist interests.

To say that the sequestration caused poor job growth is to say that government creates jobs. Game over.

Exactly. They should mention how damaging Obamacare is every time there is even a camera nearby. It is obviously a giant wet blanket on the economy, and the Republicans need to ram that message home at every opportunity.

Hard to blame the sequester when the unemployment rate for government went down to 3.6% less than half of the total UE.

Do you realize that the Post Office, TSA and Welfare programs are not the only Federal Programs affected, don’t you?

Do you realize that practically every military base in the world (domestic, as well as in war zones) as Federal employees providing critical services to support the warfighter? From logistical support, to rebuilding military equipment, designing classified equipment, programming classified software that is used in combat - Federal Employees are involved, working hand in hand with our military; both enlisted and officers.

These people have done nothing wrong - they have not had a raise in 3 years (not even a COLA), and are now being asked to take a 20% pay cut. Not because the Gov’t didn’t get enough money; but because Obama didn’t get as MUCH MORE as he wanted.

Only in Washington, and only to a Democrat, is getting less of an increase, considered taking a loss.

The sequester pink slips just went out in March, by law thet are a 60 day in advance notice. Sequester can be a good excuse in June, but not for March figures. The bogus claim will con the Turkey’s who’d drown in a rain storm...ehh half the voting public unfortunately. Bonerhead did not help with his comments.

What we need is a SUPER MASSIVE Government Program!
We should start building Giant Stone Pyramids in the Desert using only hand tools and manual labor.
When finished, they can serve as Obama's "Presidential Library".
The Jobs and FUN can continue after we Elect another President.
And just think of all the exercise all the Fat Americans will get.
YES Yes, it's 2, Two, TWO GOVERNMET PROGRAMS in ONE!

More propaganda to perpetuate the notion that Govt is the main driver of jobs, not the private sector.

Just ask any lo-info subject.

Wait, wait...wait. I need to catch my breath on that knee-slapper.

Boehner ACTUALLY leading and driving home the fact that gov’t is to blame?!

Wake me up when someone rolls back ANY law/regulation/dept./etc. that’s been usurped over the last 100 years; I’ll take notice when they actually start ENFORCING the existing laws!
