A Colorado Democrat who wanted to prevent individuals suspected of posing a threat from possessing a gun quickly backed off that plan after details of the proposal became public late Thursday.
Rep. Beth McCann said she's still working on a bill dealing with firearm restrictions for people believed to be a danger, but it's unclear when it could be introduced or what it would look like.
She said she made a mistake by releasing a draft of the bill.
"It was totally my responsibility for getting it out there," she said just hours after circulating the proposal that was scrapped.
That plan would have allowed psychologists, nurses and counselors to enter a person into the national background check system, prohibiting that individual from legally possessing a firearm for a year.
The NRA immediately called it the "most unconstitutional" legislation of the session.

This is the very kind of nightmare Larry Pratt and the folks over at GOA warned us about 5 years ago when a bill that the GOA aptly titled “Veterans Disarmament Act” was signed into law after Coburn finally caved. Unelected government psychologists determining your 2nd Ammendment rights elligibility..........let that sink in for a moment..........It’s just a matter of time as we see other issues boiling over in this country that Christianity will be declared a mental illness by leftists running the government. Yep..we know where this all ends.
Any politician, in any State, who pushes this garbage is violating their oath of office and should be dealt with as such. It's too bad there is no recourse except for violence and these traitors will keep going until they get us there.

My problem is who gets to decide if you are unfit to own a gun and the decision making process. If my information is correct there are only 20 states left that do not have a NICS accessible list of those thought to be a danger to themselves or others. Who besides a mental health professional consider themselves “professional” enough to place names on the list?
Just such a radical bill failed in committee in South Dakota on a rather benign fluke otherwise would have gone to the House floor for debate.
If you are following the moves by anti-gun folks, this is now their baby, and has been for some time as you can see by how few states are left, no pun intended, without such a list. NICS is a freedom killing travesty that regulates “law abiding citizens” and no others, and that includes the lists it accesses, since by law NICS cannot keep the information it accesses. Frankly, if it looks like a duck and quacks like one...

Just what might qualify a nurse to report someone as being dangerous?
I wouldn’t go to a psychologist, family therapist, or a counselor, on a bet.
But nurses are a bit hard to avoid.
I can imagine getting some stupid “gun” question on a medical history form, and the nurse not liking my attitude about not addressing the question.
I recently had to have a pre-surgery physical. While filling out the questions I skipped the one “Are there firearms in your household?”.
During the physical that question was asked verbally. Now I live in a rather rural area so my answer was “I will neither confirm nor deny the presence of firearms in my household”.
The doc pressed the issue until it got to the point where my next answer was “I don’t need to continue having you as my doctor - I am sure you posses firearms in your home as you have hunting pictures on the freakin’ wall! So my suggestion is you don’t ask because I’m not telling.”
I had the surgery and have found a new family doctor - 40 miles away, but worth the drive.
Can’t figure out to this day what the hell my owning a firearm has to do with having surgery...
I guess the form is a requirement of medicaid - thus used on everyone. I don’t have medicaid so go figure.
