When I retired I took on delivering the paper - did it for 5 years. I always put the paper where the customer wanted it - got better tips that way. Tell you something else, not only was the money great for me but I was able to write off on my taxes at least triple what I made. The write-off’s in that business are great. Hated to give it up.
You, sir, are a rarity these days. Too many people just put in time. They don’t really work. They don’t care how the job is done, or if the job is done.
I’ve had to fetch my home-delivered newspaper from the neighbor’s yard, the middle of the street or stuck in the rose bushes in the front yard. And while the carriers are required to bag each paper, they don’t. I’ve picked up a soggy mess on more than one occasion. One guy who did aim for the porch kept hitting the storm door. I told him, don’t do that; you might shatter the glass in the door. Sure enough, one cold morning the paper hit the door and the glass shattered. No common sense or sheer laziness.
