Rick Santorum Tells Newsmax: I May Run for President in 2016

Rick Santorum appears to be eyeing the White House again, with the former Pennsylvania senator telling Newsmax TV’s Steve Malzberg that he may run for president in 2016.

“I’m certainly leaving the door open for that,” Santorum revealed on “The Steve Malzberg Show” Wednesday afternoon. …

“The same advisors who botched these last two campaigns are now saying, ‘Well, you know, since we can’t win with moderate Republicans, we have to now try to be liberal Republicans to win instead of standing up for the values that made our country great,’” he said. …

The thread, I believe, is about Rick Santorum running again. I fail to perceive how bashing Rick is pertinent to the thread topic.

The thread is about Santorum being a presidential candidate, and discussing him as a candidate and his politics isn't pertinent to the thread topic? You must be the most irrelevant poster on FR, your posts don't make any sense or impart any useful information.

Bloomberg is practically more liberal than Obama. He would have taken votes from him

As one who supported him (by default) in 2012, allow me to say

HELL TO THE NO. His performance does not merit an encore.

Sadly enough he’d still be preferable to most of 2012 “frontrunners”.

Talking about running for President is a career path for these people.

It works, too. Buchanan, Gingrich, Palin, now Santorum.

On substance he was another big spending Bush drone,
on record he got tossed by his voters.
His ‘buy me’ sign says ‘Who cares? I am the real so-con ‘

If 2012 teaches as lesson it should be that GOP candidates need to have a real successful record, not more excuses why it was OK they were failures.

You never answered this question?

“Who was YOUR candidate in 2012, and did he finally endorse Romney as well?”

“He was a Newtbot.”

Is he afraid to admit it now? Is that why he didn’t answer my question?

“..they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights,..”

Elect a POTUS who knows this - Rick Santorum, Mike Pence or Ted Cruz! (and a few others)

I backed Santorum after Perry and Newt flamed out. I also liked Santorum when he was in the Senate. Back in 2005, I dreamed of a Sanford/Santorum, or Pawlenty/ Santorum ticket for 20008. How times have changed. I might consider backing Santorum in 2016 to send a message to the GOP about backing gay marraige just to get 18-29 years old to like them. Heck, if the GOP decided to hold gay weedding at the convention, 18-29 years olds would not vote for the GOP. The Iraqi War is what really made the youth vote to sour on them.

In view of the thread topic, and the 2016 election and Rick Santorum, I think that it is more important that you answer post 58.

Same old talking points?

Supporting Arlen Specter to defeat Toomey in 2010, until Specter finally switched to the democrat party?

Endorsing and campaigning to make the GOP a pro-abortion party?

Making history by being thrown out of office by a bigger margin than the rookie Christine O’Donnell lost by when she has never even held office?

Rick Santorum walked the pro-life walk with two disabled babies. To say otherwise, is a lie. Shame on you. You lose credibility.

Are your posts worth reading?

See, that is why you lack credibility, or even honesty, no one has mentioned his family.

You just aren’t able to respond to anything factual in regards to Santorum, for instance why he was campaigning for a presidential candidate to remove life from the republican platform in 1996.

Repeat much?

You have no link to show that Santorum was ever not a strong pro-lifer, and even IF he was not, what kind of person is he NOW?

While some politicians vote pro-life, Rick Santorum was instrumental to bringing pro-life legislation to the floor so it can be voted on at all.

As a strong pro-lifer myself, Rick Santorum is my HERO!!

“If we want to vet Santorum for real and not just throw talking points … let’s go to the record. The record will show that Santorum was and is a solid, mainstream conservative Congressman and Senator. In the 1990s, Santorum was a part of the Gingrich-led Congress that balanced the budget.

And in 2002 to 2006 the budget deficit went to $250 billion – high but nothing like the level under Obama, Reid and Pelosi. Claims that Santorum is a big-government conservative are simply contrary to his full record and his conservative agenda as a candidate for President, where he wants to repeal Obamacare, cap spending at 18% and follow the Ryan roadmap and pass the BBA.”

Watch this video, it and the transcript are more damning than almost anything that I have ever seen in politics.
This Presidential endorsement was made many years after Santorum says that he switched to being pro-life during his first run for office.

http://www.c-spanvideo.org/program/64281-1
Arlen Specter announces for the White House, with endorsee, Rick Santorum at his side.
At Senator Arlen Specter’s official presidential campaign announcement in March 1995, then-Senator Rick Santorum showed his public support and encouragement of Specter by sitting directly next to him as Specter denounced the GOP’s war on abortion. It was at this event that Specter proclaimed his total opposition to social conservatism and declared he is in fact running to make the GOP pro-choice.

Santorum is seen nodding and applauding at Specter’s side:

3:46 mark: “In 1996, I intend to win the other house — the White House — with ten commitments to America… Especially a woman’s right to choose…

13:22 mark: “Even though we have this historic opportunity for these achievements, there are those in our party who would lead us down a different path — and squander this unique moment in our nation’s history — by using our political capital — to pursue a radical social agenda — that would end a woman’s right to choose…

13:48 mark: “When Pat Robertson says there is no constitutional doctrine of separation between Church and State, I say he is wrong…

14:31 mark: “When Ralph Reed says a pro-choice Republican isn’t qualified to be our President, I say the Republican Party will not be intimidated or blackmailed by those kinds of threats.I, and millions of other pro-choice Republicans, will not be disenfranchised and made second class citizens.

15:33 mark: “… it is not Christian, or religious, or Judeo-Christian to bring God into politics; or to advocate intolerance and promote exclusion.

15:54 mark: “I want to take abortion out of politics. I want to keep the Republican Party focused on the vital economic and foreign policy issues — and leave moral issues such as abortion to the conscience of the individual. I believe abortion is an issue to be decided by women…

16:40 mark: “I pledge to lead the fight to strip the strident anti-choice language from the Republican National platform…”

17:05 mark: “neither this nation nor this party can afford a republican candidate so captive to the demands of the intolerant right...

Did you ever ADMIT that Newt ENDORSED LIBERAL Republican Dede Scozzafava?

Oh yeah, and did you ever ADMIT that Rick Santorum was the presidential candidate who endorsed her CONSERVATIVE opponent, Doug Hoffman?

Since I don’t make stuff up, here’s a link and excerpt to back up what I say:

“in the special election for Congress in New York’s 23rd district. Santorum was the second high profile potential presidential candidate (Sarah Palin was the first) to endorse Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman over liberal Republican Dede Scozzafava.

This showed leadership for the limited government cause because of the timing of the endorsement, coming before establishment Republicans had figured out that Scozzafava was a losing candidate.

This is interesting because Newt Gingrich went a different way and endorsed the non-conservative Scozzafava. Club for Growth summarizes thusly..”

http://www.redstate.com/wosg/2012/01/06/rick-santorum-yes-he-is-a-true-conservative/

btw, I actually like Newt far better than Romney, and some others, but he was no match for Rick!
