Anti-gun allegations against Defense honcho believable but unsubstantiated(brass destruction)
Gun Rights Examiner ^ | 2 April, 2013 | David Codrea

Posted on 04/03/2013 9:22:36 AM PDT by marktwain

A memorandum issued by Deputy Secretary of Defense Ashton B. Carter on expended military ammunition brass sale and scrap guidelines cited in yesterday’s Gun Rights Examiner column has raised questions about who he is, and if he harbors a personal political agenda in favor of restricting civilian market supplies to the extent that he can.

That Carter is an elite establishment player is unquestionable. Earning degrees from Yale, being a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford, going on to being “chair of the International and Global Affairs faculty at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government,” and holding various White House positions in the Clinton, Bush and Obama administrations, we’re looking at a consummate insider. His having strong ties with Goldman Sachs and the Council on Foreign Relations should come as no surprise to anyone who follows how those at the top of the political food chain are connected.

That Obama’s “Pentagon procurement czar” is a doctrinaire Democrat is also evidenced by his substantial campaign contributions to Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, among others (albeit, he also donated over various cycles to anti-gun establishment “Republican” Dick Lugar).

Political sympathies aside, why else, aside from his writing a memorandum that appears to stretch the spirit and intent of appropriations requirements to justify scrapping brass that could be sold to the civilian reload market, are some painting Carter as vehemently anti-gun?

Another example of the executive grabbing more and more power. This destruction of brass is directly opposite the intent of legislation, even if it attempts to claim that it is not.

But, with the MSM as a virtual propaganda ministry for this administration, the Chavista style power grab ongoing is not even mentioned, except to praise it, in the MSM.

Only in the new media is the insanity of what is happening mentioned. How long do we have until the new media is silenced... I hope it never is.

Although I passed the point of “reasonably having enough ammo” a few years back I steadfastly purchase and store whatever ammo I could use (that isn’t under gouging prices) I can find anywhere.

My daily routine is to check the online availabilities when I wake up at 5AM and then head down to Walmart for the 7AM catch of the day. Sometimes I hit two or three Walmarts in succession. There have been some times recently where I’ve gotten one or two fantastically good deals on ammo you wouldn’t think you could get.

The 0bamao Administration is best characterized as a Communist Occupation Government - the COG.

The mid-terms will determine just how tenacious the communist hold on power is.

If they can improve and increase their voter fraud, they will have succeeded in establishing communism as the de facto form of American government until it either implodes, like the Soviets, or is overthrown, as Ceaușescu was in Romania.

How many criminals buy once-fired military surplus brass for reloading? Zero! This is purely an attack on law-abiding gun owners.

Is it legal for anyone to buy from overseas? I know we can get Russian and Chinese ammo, but we should be able to buy from even eastern Europe. It seems importers are missing the boat if they aren’t searching even the most remote sources of ammo. I’ve shot Hungarian .308’s and they worked great. I guess Egypt needs all they can get, but they could have a source of income if they would let some go. As bare as the shelves are, I bet no one would bitch too loud shooting ammo from anywhere. Also, it should put the fear of God in the gun grabbers that we don’t need their stinking permission to arm ourselves.

“Is it legal for anyone to buy from overseas?”

Yes, you just have to submit the paperwork to the State Department and get licensed. That takes several thousand dollars and several months.

Then you have to be approved for each purchase, and permit issued for that purchase, as I understand it. That probably takes a couple months.

Then you have to develop the contacts, and arrange to have the ammunition shipped here by boat. Minimum of another month.

So... anyone can do it, if you have the time and money.

A really sharp startup with lots of money might be able to have ammunition coming into the U.S. in less than a year. Heck, make a hundred thousand dollar donation to the Obama administration, and you could probably get that down to six months!

Believe me, every ammunition importer in the U.S. is scouring the world for ammunition to import. The potential profits are fantastic. That is how the freemarket works. The reasons for the enormous demand and the time it is taking to meet it are all political.

Last election was just a test of their ability, I fear it will work really well for them in the next Congressional elections.

It only matters who counts the votes, not who votes.

No one - but NO ONE - in the country seems disturbed in the slightest about the endless waste of money by president hussein and his minions.

Lots of people *are* disturbed by it. The MSM is just doing a good job of keeping the lid on.

As many have noted, just consider the uproar if President “Dubya” Bush had acted on tenth as autocratic and imperial as President Obama.

At lest President Bush got permission from Congress to go to war in Iraq and Afghanistan. President Obama claimed he did not need to even inform the Congressional leadership about his war in Libya.
