CHICAGO (AP) Acclaimed film critic Roger Ebert said he's been diagnosed with cancer again and that he will scale back his prolific writing of movie reviews while undergoing radiation treatment.

May his battle with cancer be short and his heart be at peace.
I consider the pulitzer as important as the Nobel. Both are libtard awards for just showing up and repeating the libtard lies. Junk awards.
For being a critic he sure was part of the very culture he critisized. He wrote for movies and appeared in some.
While I enjoy some of the works of hollyweird I don’t put a lot of love out for them. Cinima used to be important and actually helped move America forward, but those days are gone. Mostly due to the likes of Ebert and other libtards. What cinema has become from the 70s to today is a cancerous shadow of it’s former self.
It’s obvious you put too much importance in cinema and the people who work in that “culture”. Ebert is of no importance to me.And his “contributions” to cinema are not worth noting. Unless you are a starry eyed sycophant of hollyweird. I grew out of that many many years ago.
The science Nobels certainly aren’t junk. And many great writers have won the Nobel or Pulitzer.
Nobody will remember that he wrote for movies...his writings on film introduced many little known films and directors to people who would not have otherwise known about them. If a few more people see ‘Tokyo Story’ or Ikiru because of Ebert’s advocacy of them that’s a good thing.
He gave Burt Reynold's "Cop and a Half" as many stars as "Godfather II" and more than "Reservoir Dogs."
It’s impossible to be consistent with the star system. There’s no absolute scale only what something achieves within what it’s aiming for.
Who, me? [blinks his big innocent eyes]
Ebert gave pregnant Arnold Schwarzegger's "Junior" 3.5 stars ("this macho guy melting with feelings of protectiveness and maternal concern") compared to his evaluation of Clint Eastwood's masterpiece "Unforgiven" coming in at 2.5 on the Ebert scale.
He often valued what he perceived as important social messages over artistic merit.
Actually Ebert was criticized by the film academics for being overly positive to films that were merely entertaining (Rocky, Star Wars) and had no pretensions to be anything else. That he was too easy on films.
Like making movies with porn pioneer Russ Meyer?
No as a critic/scholar. Francis Ford Coppola also started making porn films. Does that negate his entire career?
‘started out making porn films’
Fawn over him as much as you wish, but you’re not winning any converts here from what I can see. Your idol worship of this clown just gives me reason to question your political leanings.
I wouldn’t buy a book this clown wrote.
I also never put much weight behind any opinions of this ass. Same with all libtards like Moore, Carry and Streisend.

LOL!
I knew Ebert 50 years ago in college (UofI Champaign-Urbana). He was a fat little full-of-himself sort of guy, even then. Head of ADA and known at that point in time for chairing their Thursday luncheon sessions.
I got dragged along as *beard* for a friend who had a crush on him. I _think_ I lasted through two of them, but it might have only been one.
I don’t wish his sort of cancer on anyone, but perhaps God decided that Roger needed some trials in order to learn a little humility. And, perhaps he really has. I’ll join those wishing that he finds peace. But, I cannot fault your stance on it all, either.
There are quite a few critics I like more than Ebert. But you seem to think that anything other then contempt amounts to ‘idol worship’. And who the hell is ‘Carry’?
You are so sweet, thank you for the kind words. How does the saying go? There go I but for the grace of God. If my father had not been a conservative, put me through catholic schooling, raised me with a certain belief system, I could have totally ended up as leftist.
My dad suffered from various cancers, one of which was squamous cell carcinoma. They had to carve out part of his neck and he had a chunk of his scalp removed due to melanoma. He face was unaffected but other places were not. Being disfigured is one of my biggest fears, so seeing this poor man, I think his lower jaw was removed, should bring sorrow to all, at least those with a heart.
I don’t care who the critic or actor or writer or director or what ever is, they are mostly leftard idiots and anyone who puts them up as being a special person or on a pedestal is someone who is misguided. You seem to post mostly hollywood crap and if you’ve been paying attention on FR then you should know that hollywood isn’t well thought of here. Maybe you should take your hollywood idol worship to Huffington or MoveOn and you would find someone who feels the same as you do about these idiots.
Carry = Jim Carrey. I guess I dropped the e in his name.
I do hold these fools in contempt because that is how they hold me and all conservatives.
There’s lots of threads about ‘favorite’ movies here. You haven’t been paying attention.
Being an insightful critic takes time, effort and talent.
I liked Siskel a lot though, very devoted to his Jewish faith, he wasn’t just a “cultural” Jew. He died way too young.

...cancer has decimated many on both sides of my family, my aunt having suffered the most, quite similar to what you describe with your father...just a hard thing to see...I hate cancer in all its forms with as much vitriol as I can muster; it has caused friends of mine to turn on God and damn Him for it, and I can only hope I don’t go down that road as well...
...it looks like Ebert has suffered much from his cancer; it distresses me to see it, and for some to focus in on the fact he’s not an ideological soulmate seems absurd considering his suffering...that he chose to shoot off his big mouth during his lifetime, well, it seems one could overlook that for now...he’s dying from cancer, and nobody in his shoes should be disrespected in the face of that...
