Bye
I wish him as much peace as possible before passing from this earth. I pray he uses his last moments to become right with The Lord. Have mercy on his soul.
He’s pretty serious about his Catholicism from what I’ve heard.
I totally disagree with him but I wish him the best. Only a very few of the worst monsters in history deserve what he’s going through; Ebert certainly doesn’t. Good luck to him.
Looking at a picture of him, his face all disfigured, brings nothing but sympathy for him. I cannot imagine going through life like that.
Regardless of his political views, I pray for his health and recovery.
I can't say I wouldn't likewise be inconsolably bitter should the same thing happen to me, but I hope that I wouldn't make a spectacular ass out of myself that greatly mitigates any sympathy towards me like how I regard Roger Ebert right now.
So here's your prayer from me, Roger: 'Good luck with that thing you got'.
While I sympathize with his struggle, perhaps he’ll concentrate on getting well instead of loosing his lib dim rants on how the rest of us should live...good luck, Ebert.
Not exactly a glowing legacy. However, he has fought his disease with courage and dignity, and I wish him well...
How about if someone had contributed to the musical culture or the literary culture? Would that be better?
yawn........ click on mouse... close screen... next news item....
You’re all class.
thanks for bringing a little class to Freerepublic. Many here seem to forget what it means. You abviouly take a break from the doom and gloom to live life with compasssion and joy.
That would obviously depend on the specifics of his contribution, i.e., whether it advanced our culture in a positive way. In other words, were he a piano virtuoso, yes; if he were a gangsta rapper, no....
His contribution is scholarly. Introducing many little known film and national cinematic traditions to people who would not have otherwise known about them.
And in the process, he promoted both filth as well as some worthwhile work. While your mileage may vary, I'll take Michael Medved any day. Cheers....
Like what? One of his initial claims to fame was publicly objecting to slasher films. Medved doesn’t really have a sense of the medium.
Contributing to "film culture" is a *good* thing? I suspect that you'd disagree with me when I say that over the last 60+ years 99.9% of what's come out of Hollywood has been absolute garbage.
True
You could say the same thing about books and music...and just about everything else. As Sturgeon’s Law states...85% of everything is crap. The point is to focus on the best.
