The Associated Press, the largest news-gathering outlet in the world, will no longer use the term "illegal immigrant."
The news came in the form of a blog entry authored by Senior Vice President and Executive Editor Kathleen Carroll on Tuesday afternoon, explaining that the decision is part of the company's on-going attempt to rid their Stylebook of labels.
"The Stylebook no longer sanctions the term 'illegal immigrant' or the use of 'illegal' to describe a person. Instead, it tells users that 'illegal' should describe only an action, such as living in or immigrating to a country illegally," Carroll wrote.
The company's decision comes after years of controversy over the term. Fusion, the ABC-Univision joint venture, does not use "illegal immigrant" because we believe it dehumanizes those it describes and we find it to be linguistically inaccurate.
We wrote last year about how most of America's top college newspapers and major TV networks, including ABC, NBC and CNN, have vowed to stop using the term.

Genius. If people don’t have the word they can’t commit the thought crime.
Foreign Criminal Invader would be more accurate
How about: “Lawbreaking wetbacks”?
You’re absolutely right GeronL. They are not immigrants. They are invaders.
Call them what they are CRIMINAL ILLEGAL ALIENS!
AP Stylebook: double plus good!
We are doomed..
Well, I guess there can be no such thing as an “illegal firearm” or “illegal assault rifle” using the same logic.
Tell us this is an April Fools’ story and AP really is instead going to drop “gay marriage” and “economic recovery” and “two-state solution” and “palestinians” and “gun control” and and and and all other false or misleading phrases from their stories
It’s certainly wrong to call them “undocumented”. They have all sorts of fraudulent “documents”. Some of them provided by corrupt members of the government offices (DPS and others) who KNOWINGLY approve fraudulent paperwork in exchange for under the table kickbacks.
How about invading lawless hoards?
And bank robbers are now “underfunded insistent de-depositors.”
Okay, so instead of “illegal immigrant,” I’ll use “illegal alien.”
How about the term wetback? Is that allowed?
It is not a “label”, it is a fact, and a statement of fact.
An illegal immigrant is someone who has come to the U.S. illegally or who, just as illegally has failed to leave the U.S. after a valid visa expired.
It is “undocumented worker” and/or “undocumented alien” and/or “undocumented immigrant that are mere “labels” and made up labels at that; made up - invented - to deny the truth, the facts that an illegal immigrant IS an illegal immigrant, period, no “label” needed.
Not all of them work and quite a few of them have "documents", so they can't be called "undocumented workers", like the liberals want. But then, what do liberals care about the truth?
bump
exactly
The AP should describe a Robber as an “Entrepreneur”
Found this one on twitter:
“’Stalker’ is now to be ‘Person who really just wants to be loved, and that’s okay.’”
