A man who was found dead hanging by a rope off an 18-story Sacramento high-rise appears to have been a graffiti tagger, Sacramento police said Monday.
Fire Battalion Chief Marc Bentovoja said the man appears to have died accidentally of asphyxiation when he created a harness from the rope and lowered himself down the east side of the office building.
"From everything we can tell, he didn't have any special rope rappelling equipment on, climbing equipment or anything like that," he said. "He appeared to be looped into the rope."
A police department dispatch supervisor said Monday afternoon that investigators found a can of spray paint and a tool for etching glass on the part of a balcony where the ropes were anchored.
The family of the deceased will probably sue the owners of the highrise for not providing safer graffiti-tagging equipment.
But he might get a spot on ‘1000 ways to die’.
Well, I’m guessing he won’t do that again.
“These taggers have been called modern artists. Perhaps this was the ultimate performance art?”
In the ‘50’s a friend was working in the inner city and everything except the truck terminal next door and the trucks was covered by graffiti. One day my friend asked a trucker why there was no graffiti on the terminal or trucks. The trucker said, “’cause we don’t allow it.” Damn! So, that’s the answer. I’m guessing the truckers used more than a slap on the wrist and a ride home to mama to discourage it.
There are a lot of WHITE KIDS tagging and spraying graffiti now. It never really was a “black thing” exclusively. The srt meda have done a lot to glorify it, and cities all over the world that were once beautiful look like crap.
Graffiti is kind of like rape.
Definitely a candidate for a Darwie
I believe it. The mentality and mindset are the same, however.
“Eyes not ‘fraid of fallen, see, course I got me dis here rope, see?”
True. The last one who died after falling off an overpass was a Russian immigrant.
Of course. He’s gonna be voting the big (D) next election. Twice. Guaranteed.
