This strikes me as strange, because in ALL the other missions for the B2, they flyout of Missouri, non-stop, no landing, refuel in midair, conduct their bombing run, and RETURN TO MISSOURI.

That is what I heard they did. Took off from MO and returned to MO nonstop. Some 13,000 miles round trip.
This is about sending a message - both to South Korea (assurance) and North Korea (watch it). Similar to announcing that a USN Boomer is leaving port to go near the coast of XYZ country. Only reason for saying it is to send a message, since it could all be done covertly if the real need was there.
I thought a number of B2s were based in Guam — one was lost there in an accident — Andersen Air Force Base.

I see nothing in the article that contradicts the possibility that the B2 flew out of and landed in Missouri, non-stop. Do you?
