ASHEVILLE — The Asheville Citizen Times is reporting that police on Wednesday charged an Asheville midwife with killing an unborn child through a mishandled delivery.

Tina Louise Bailey, 44, of Craig Circle Drive, provided medical services to a woman in labor in July, according to an arrest warrant. Those included catheterization and internal obstetrical examinations, police said. Bailey also gave medical advice without the training to do so, investigators said.

One must have the proper credentials to murder the unborn.

So.. you want to have a baby on your own, and a friend helps you...You are committing a crime?

You MUST go to the doctor, and have a legal entity service you- or else?

I am sorry for what happened here, but they all knew what they were doing.

You dont need a medical degree to isert a catheter- you can by them on TV now and insert them yourself.

Terrible.

My wife gave birth on Sunday, and everything went well but she did faint when she tried to stand up for the first time. There was some normal bleeding afterwards, but things can go south real fast. There's no way in hell she was going to be any place but a hospital.

People should be free to make their own decisions. The government wants to force everyone to be dependent on the government-approved system. It’s not a question of health (things can go wrong anywhere/anytime) but a question of control.

Congratulation on the birth. We made the choice to be at the hospital for our son’s birth, We considered our options, though.

Would you outlaw home birth?

People are free to make their own decisions. But I trust our OB, and the hospital staff were so unbelievably competent, cool under pressure, and helpful, that I was emotional when thanking them. I also have the benefit of having spectacular health insurance through my employer, so the whole trip cost and hospital stay cost us less than $500.

If my wife started bleeding profusely and seconds counted, I want her near a hospital surrounded by trained medical personnel and doctors, not a midwife. The popular belief is that hospitals too often push for C-section, but that has never been our experience with our two children that were born in hospitals in the last two years. They did everything they could to avoid a c-section (we were close with the first one, as they had a little trouble getting him out), and both our children were born naturally.

Thank you for the warm wishes.

I would not outlaw home births, but it is something that I would never choose for our family in a million years. In this country a healthy woman with a healthy pregnancy has little chance of encountering deadly or life altering dangers during labor. But there is still a chance, and even if the chance is one in a million, I want her near doctors who have the knowledge, experience, and equipment/supplies to get the job done if something goes wrong.

Tina Louise Bailey of Ashville was arrested on prostitution charges in February: http://www.thesylvaherald.com/arrests/sheriff_s_office/article_66eadf36-75e4-11e2-b333-0019bb30f31a.html

Puts a new spin on this story. She is a con.

Our two babies were born in a hospital for the same reasons as yours. And my knees were weak and I couldn’t speak intelligibly for hours — just from watching my wife give birth in the birthing suite. What times those were!

My point is: things can go wrong with giving birth, even in a hospital.

Thanks. We are blessed.

After our first ultrasound, she was only in the 18th percentile for height and weight, so we were a little concerned considering our first baby was a monster (9 lbs. 6 oz.). But in the end, baby girl was 8 lbs. 13 oz. All of that worrying for nothing, haha.

A girl has to make a living. But her arrest for prostitution does change this story around. Thought she was a qualified midwife but she isn’t.

Doh! Makes one ask how closely the birth mother background checked.

My daughter gave birth in December to her second child. It was a moderately high risk situation.
A year or so ago a new branch of the area’s main hospital opened much closer to us and started offering labor and delivery.
When my daughter asked if she could go to the new location, her doctor said “No, it isn’t a real hospital yet.”
