Looks like an RG-14 to me. I had one once and tested it for accuracy. At the time, I was on the University of Wisconsin Pistol Team, shooting fairly regularly. I put a little whiteout on the front sight, and was able to hold about a 3 inch group (six shots, full cylinder) at 50 feet from a rest. The trigger was terrible, but the actual accuracy was credible.

Or it could have even "just gone off" while it was under that seat!
Why can't I ever find anything cool like that?

Bonus!
I got a free pocket knife and a half a pack of Pall Malls last time I rented a car.

Maybe I’m just paranoid but I always check rental car trunks for human bodies or any other contraband before I leave the lot.

I always check the box for the extra insurance and the snub nosed 38 when I rent a car.

Shouldn’t her granddaughter have been restrained in a child safety seat, and unable to reach down and pick up a gun?
Also, shouldn’t she teach her daughter that if she finds dangerous things, she should NOT PICK THEM UP AND PLAY WITH THEM?
I trained my kids about that before they were 3. You can’t watch them every second, and there are many dangerous things people leave lying around (like that woman who let her kids eat condoms someone left at a mcdonalds playyard).

Many moons and years ago I worked afternoons and nights for National Car Rental @ TIA (Tampa). I was a driver....
I never bought one beer or bottle of wine the entire time I worked there. The vehicle returns were always rife with goodies.
I did turn in cameras and such....no guns though - you can bet those would have disappeared.

Something similar happened several months ago. Sounds suspicious. Do they rent cars to FBI, DEA or DHS agents?

***Looks like an RG-14 to me.***
RG pistols are junk. This looks like one of those $12.00 .22s they used to sell back about 40 years ago.
Back in 1969, HP WHITE did government mandated tests to “prove” this was a “Saturday Night Special”. They found this to be one of the most accurate .22s they ever tested.
A super accurate piece of junk.

RG stands for “rotten gun”. They are among the worst ever made.

Worse thing that ever happened to me in a rental car is I got a ticket for having an expired license tab. Took about a year to get that straightened out.

Maybe they just give you the gun with the car, since Florida is NOT a very safe place to be a tourist.

Tampa?
Lady, the gun comes WITH THE CAR.
In Miami the rental cars come with TEC-9s.

It could have slid out from under my seat and into the back seat, and she could have picked it up and either one of us could have got shot," Linda Ashmore exclaimed. Or you could have been driving your rental car in the outback, had a flat tire and a dingo could have eaten your baby.
