White Student Union Claims Towson Has Black-On-White Crime Problem
CBS Baltimore ^ | March 26th, 2013 | Rochelle Ritchie

Posted on 03/27/2013 10:42:46 AM PDT by Third Person

According to the University System of Maryland, which monitors crime on campus, Towson University has the lowest crime statistics. Despite an increase in enrollment, violent crimes are down almost 38%.

Some students fear Heimbach’s beliefs more than an actual criminal.

“I felt very safe, but when I heard about this, I was like, `Well, now I can’t walk alone. I have to find a guy friend to walk me back to my dorm,’” said Alexandra Gainous.

In response to the white student union crime patrol, university officials say, “We do not encourage the general public to take the law into their own hands for both their personal safety and legal protection.”

Some call Heimbach a racist. He says he is simply trying to serve his community.

“The white student union is just trying to be the vanguard to help our community,” he said.

Heimbach says three males and one female armed with pepper spray will patrol the campus and report or place a person under citizen’s arrest if they believe that person is committing a crime. Heimbach says if his group sees a non-white student being violated, they will step in and help.

He graduates in May.

“anything else is an affront to civil rights”

Huh? You have a “civil right” to form student groups at so and so college? We really love throwing that term around, don’t we?

The term “civil right” is indeed tossed around loosely these days but forming groups of like minded individuals is indeed a right detailed in the Constitution I believe.

The people have a right to “peaceably assemble”, at least for now.

I posted DOJ figures obtained from wiki -- it included black-on-white rapes and white-on-black rapes figures for one year (2005 IIRC). White-on-black rapes were zero. The black-on-white rapes number was large. See figures below.

The wiki article was changed after I referenced it and the numbers deleted. (I am not claiming that it was changed because it was referenced on FR.) In fact it continues to be modified (I think just a couple of days ago).

Apparently there's a raging controversy within wiki over the original wiki article -- here.

These offending facts were removed from the wiki article and saved to a "safe place" were liberals can rage.

"The U.S. Department of Justice compiles statistics on crime by race, but only between and among people categorized as black or white. There were 111,490 white and 36,620 black victims of rape or sexual assault reported in 2005. Out of the 111,490 cases involving white victims, 44.5% (49,613) had white offenders and 33.6% (37,461) had black offenders, while the 36,620 black victims had a figure of 100% black offenders, with a 0.0% estimation for any other race based on ten or fewer sample cases.[62] Some types of rape are excluded from official reports altogether"

Last time I checked these huge DOJ files of tables were still available and are the source of race-based comparisons.

1995 1996 1997 1998 1999 2000 2001 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006 2007 2008

These US DoJ figures include victims who reported the crime and victims who did not report the crime to police. I think US DoJ interviews 75,000 victims of crimes and develops stats from the results. FBI statistics are separate and are reported crimes only.

The raging wiki liberals led me to try to extract and display just those crime figures for all years available. (Below.) Apparently the Obama/Holder Dept. of Just Us and Our People stopped publishing the figures or at least I was unable to find figures beyond 2008.

I tried to talk him out of it, but he wouldn't listen. He had some kind of romantic notion about the place. He also visited Annapolis, which he liked much better.

Panhandled in JH...that is a new one. I've been panhandled inside the Science Center, the Hyatt Regency, the Omni, City Hall (yes, THE City Hall, where there was also human excrement on the floor) and of course Harbor Place. But never JH or the Aquarium. Balmer is so much fun. I had my license plates stolen by a gang of thugs right in front of me in a supposedly secure garage. (They actually caught the thugs, I wanted to press charges but the Balmer DAs office basically told me to eff off). I currently live uncomfortably close to the s**thole.

No one has a right to form a student group, and a school could legally forbid them. But once a school allows some students to organize along certain lines (in this case racial lines) disallowing other students from doing the same is an affront to the rights of those students. For instance under the equal protection clause it is impermissible to say “for Whites the rule is A but for Blacks the rule is B.”

It may be hypocritical, but not disparaging of their rights, which aren’t at issue. Either students have a right to form officially recognized groups of their choosing or they don’t, and they don’t. They don’t suddenly have a right because you think the school’s student group policies are inconsistent, inappropriate, or irrational.

What’s at issue is the justice or rightness of the policy. Though rights are part of justice and, obviously, rightness, they aren’t the whole of it. We carry ourselves away with rights talk, when often all we really mean to do is talk about morals, ethics, justice, etc. As you figure it either groups can be formed on the basis of race or not, and any forebearance of certain racial groupings is unjust. Okay, and I agree, and certain that argument has compelling logic. But of course you must be aware of the prevailing view of “diversity,” whereby nonwhites segregating themselves are good and whites bunching together is always bad. However wrong is this view, whatever bad results we’ve seen in the past, it comports with most people’s, and certainly academia’s, sense of justice.

So we re left with competing views of the good. If it’s a private school you may refuse it tout tuition and persuade others to do so. If it’s a public school you may appeal to higher justice, namely antidiscrimination law. Good luck, given judges’ sense of justice. All I’m saying is rights don’t enter into it.

Baltimore is like that. There are some nice things, but they are surrounded by filthy slums. I had a friend from out of town discuss his Baltimore vacay itenerary with me. He planned to take his family for an all-day walking tour including Harbor Place, the Aquarium, Little Italy and a game at Camden Yards. When he got to the part about walking to and from Little Italy after dark I stepped in and suggested that he consider taking a cab, or eating at Harbor Place. He would have none of it and did it his way. I later asked him how it went. He ruefully admitted to me that every place that they visited was filthy, including the aquarium. He had to constantly warn the kids not to touch anything. After dinner they were hounded by aggressive panhandlers all the way back from the restaurant to Harbor Place. And the Orioles lost. (You don’t need to be Kreskin to see that one coming.)

I live here. My parish is St. Leo's in Little Italy. Your assessment is either ridiculous, or outdated. For instance, the fairly long walk from LI to the stadium would be fine at night. BTW, the Orioles came close to the World Series last year.

I live and work nearby. My friends trip was in 2010. I was downtown several times in 2012 and conditions were still as I described. I did not go to LI in 2012. My City Hall visit where I encountered panhandlers inside the supposedly secure building and saw urine on the floor and walls was last summer. I visted the Walters AG and Greenmount Cemetery last spring and the surroundings in both places looked like war zones.

I will admit that Baltimore is doing better than it was when I last worked there in the '90s. But Charm City it most definitely is not.

Vanguard of what? The proletariat? A revolution?

This man’s motives may be entirely honorable, but I get suspicious when people throw out words like “vanguard.”

If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck . . .

He’s very, very lucky that panhandlers and filth were all the bad stuff that happened to them.
