At question was whether it was prudent for the company to risk the return for its investors by advocating for gay marriage. The questioner also expressed disappointment with the companys most recent results and claimed they were partly driven by the boycott Starbucks faced about the gay marriage issue.
Schultz later said that if the shareholder remained unhappy with the 38% annual return on value the company provided, You can sell your shares of Starbucks. Its a free country.

Remember when the CEO of JCPenney went all in and supported gays and hired Ellen Degeneres? A few months later Penneys was flirting with bankruptcy. I suspect that the CEO of Starbucks may be having some big decisions to make and his company is not doing that well. This is the kiss of death to go all in for a segment of the population that is no more than 2% and ignore the 98%. Starbucks may announce some big downsizing in the near future as the shareholder in this annual meeting expressed disappointment at the company's performance.

Great CEO. Alienate over 50% of the population. Do they teach that to people who get their MBAs?

why any business owner would jump into that water is beyond me. A businessman should probably focus on taking care of business, not advocating for highly divisive social issues.

I don’t like their overpriced burned tasting swill intended to cover up their crappy beans anyways.
McDonalds and Dunkin’ have far better tasting coffee.

As I said, I think Starbucks is singing its last hoora!
I have noticed that the Starbucks products have really gone down in quality. I suspect there may be some big internal problems. This is suicide.

Don’t worry Mr. CEO; I would not step in your stores for even a bathroom break. Let the people you welcome there; give you plenty of business. Your coffee is yucky and your desserts are always greasy and 100% sugar of what I’ve had.

McDonalds and Dunkin’ must be laughing all the way to the bank.

I'm in. I can do without Starbucks. If they don't want my money, I've no reason to provide it.

I was out shopping this past weekend and the store we were going to was right next to Starbucks. My husband who does not drink coffee but knows I love it asked me if I wanted to get a coffee at Starbucks and I said NO because the CEO had said if you don’t support his stance on gay marriage just sell your shares in the Company. We don’t own any shares but we can opt out of buying the product which is what I did and I saved myself $5.00 in the process.

Their coffee is lousy - very rough - I think they roast green beans.
Now I have another reason to stay away from them!

It’s o.k., he can shove it! Some of the local non-franchised coffee shops are far better.
