A petition has been launched asking American lingerie giant Victoria's Secret to pull a range of underwear it believes is marketed at pre-teenage girls, which features slogans such as 'Feeling Lucky?'
Victoria's Secret says its PINK line is 'for the independent spirit on campus', but its new campaign has angered so many parents that a Facebook page entitled 'Dear Victoria's Secret: Pull "Bright Young Things" and an online petition have been launched.
The Bright Young Things campaign ties in with PINK's Spring Break line - the name given to the Easter Holidays in the U.S., but many have interpreted it to be a sub-brand aimed at those of middle-school age. Knickers featuring glittery slogans such as 'Call Me', 'Wild' and 'Feeling Lucky' form part of the mix alongside brightly coloured hoodies and jersey basics.

Why not ‘Secret’s Sweet Sixteen Sluts’? How’s that? I mean, why disguise the intended outcome for girls here?
-”spring break” is definitely a college thing.
-it’s not lingerie so why does the age matter? should child swimwear catalogs be outlawed too?
-”pretty young thing” doesn't typically have a negative connotation.
-she definitely looks at least late teens and is wearing what a girl typically would in a beach town. Probably even more than usual with those long baggy shorts versus a more common tight miniskirt.
She looks 13 to me. Scary.
24? Then she is a young woman, as I first thought as VS markets to women, not girls. Viewing that photo, I realize I'm so old I can't tell the difference between a young woman or a older girl. Jeepers, I should stay off these threads, lol.
A &F is actually in a bit of financial trouble as of June 2012 when it reported it was closing 180 stores so don’t be too quick to say that the outrage over it’s ads led to greater success. Also take a look at how JC Penney is doing these days.
It is never wrong to speak out against moral depravity, sometimes the results are not always immediate. Patience.
I have no doubt that VS was after the pre-teen market...now they are merely back-peddling because of consumer backlash. There is a huge amount of money to be made from this crowd. Marketing sweats with sexually suggestive innuendo to single college women is only marginally less inappropriate.
Your comment nailed the problem on its head.
It isn’t you. That model looks younger and less developed than my 13 year old daughter. She may be older but VS knows she doesn’t LOOK older.
It really isn't you. It is just companies like VS are going to naturally choose people who are more attractive and thus would look younger. Healthy and in shape looks young. They certainly aren't going to stick Honey Boo Boo's mom or someone who looks like Helen Thomas on the cover. They have been saying for a while 30 is the new 20 and now they are saying 40 is the new 20 because of healthier lifestyles, exercise, and younger styled fashion trends being adopted by older women.
I just think these type of petitions are embarrassing to our side. First, it is based on a lie. Second, it is just blaming someone else for irresponsible parenting. Third, I think there is somewhat of a jealousy factor in play. I don't mean to sound rude, but you usually hear catty women complaining about other women who look younger and athletic. They will find some way to complain.
“I put rapists in panelled-vans, corporate marketers for Victorias Secret, and much of Hollywood into the same category.”
Well said.
Look at the Bright Side, at least their still wearing Underwear.
When does it end: Burka for all women, Bathing suits at work. Fashion Police bad mkay!
Has fashion since Adam and Eve kinda messed up humans?
Sin is Sin in any sense. We must look beyond this and hope there is enough sense out there that some things die out as fast as they flare up.
‘but you usually hear catty women complaining about other women who look younger and athletic.’
While the above is true of catty women, trying to protect our daughters and sons from being sexualized at a younger and younger age does not make us catty. I think the model is lovely but she looks like a little girl who is just starting to develop. If the line is for college girls then put a model in the ad that looks like a college girl.
College girls and those who are younger but want to look and act like a college girl.
I don’t think you’re supposed to say that kind of stuff here...
The King’s children are on “Spring Break” in the Bahama’s....they are NOT college age...
I see lots of women over 25 and their bodies haven't stopped growing. ;-)

Excellent post, longfellowsmuse.
You know why they call it middle age right?
What parents would let their pre-teen girl near a Victoria's Secret?? I mean, my boys wanted 'glow in the dark underwear', but I asked 'Why. No one will see them!'
I don't have a girl, yet, but she wouldn't be in VS until she is 18.
