The day before the U.S. Supreme Court hears arguments on the constitutionality of gay marriage, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush tells Newsmax TV in an exclusive interview that the issue should be decided by the states.

“I would prefer it to be a state-by-state issue,” Bush tells Newsmax. “That’s how we have dealt with a lot of issues in the United States.

“Our federal system is a spectacular way to deal with changing mores—and states can take advantage of opportunities much better than federal government,” Bush says. “This could be a place where the states play a role, as is the case right now.” …

Absolutely not. That’s why I’ve always advocated for the repeal of the Seventeenth Amendment.

So, Jeb: Adam and Steve get “married” in a blue state and move to a red state. Does the red state have to recognize their wedded bliss?

RE :”I’ve had it with that states should decide crap. It’s a wuss position.
Half the states are gonna have it soon then, Jeb. Cool with with you?”

I think your point is that Jeb should take a moral position on this. But we can guss what that really is, which is why he wont say.

I don't want the Federal government (including the courts) to tell the states what to do in this. But likewise I don't want the states telling the Federal government what they must do either. overturning DOMA.

Are Jeb Bush and Rand for or against DOMA? Its that simple but they wont answer.

I have C-Span on in the background. Homo-marriage is the morning topic. The people of CA voted twice, once via statute and once via Constitutional Amendment, to recognize what civilization has long known. If Senators were State appointed I cannot imagine Anti-Tenth Amendment justices making it through the Senate Judiciary Committee, let alone the full Senate.

The 17th not only removed State agency from Congress, in its aftermath, it threatens the foundation of our republics: self government itself.

I agree but the “natural family” has been disappearing from America for some time now. Divorce, out of wedlock births, adultery, not sure who the daddy is, three kids by three different fathers. A family made up of married parents who have not been married to anyone else and have children together and are still married is becoming rare.

Remember, more and more of the GWB administration are coming out for gay marriage.

One that really annoys me is GWB admin's spokes wommin Nicolle Wallace. She is on MSNBC regularly and the Sunday shows laughing saying how those like us who believe in marriage are dying off and dont matter anymore. This is who McCain hired to 'help' Palin in 2008 too.

She is this smiley happy faced FAT troll who the networks give a break to by never letting the camera go below her neckline, usually she's behind a BIG table

Here's a hard to find picture of her below the neck:

I rarely cuss but if I were judge and jury I’d require Jeb Bush to STFU and observe two weeks of total silence in the second half of March for the rest of his wretched life.

"That’s a dodge, Jeb. Where do YOU stand on it?"

“I don’t think people need to be discriminated against because they don’t share my belief on this, and if people love their children with all their heart and soul and that’s what they do and that’s how they organize their life that should be held up as examples for others to follow because we need it. We desperately need it and that can take all sorts of forms, it doesn’t have to take the one that I think should be sanctioned under the law.”

Yes I’d like to hear if a candidate is fer or agin something not “leave it to the states”, the stock phrase of the mealy mouthed wuss looking for a cop-out. If those jerks wanna play it that way someone should ask them, should Kentucky/Florida allow gay marriage? Should Kentucky/Florida be forced to recognize NY gay marriages? I’m asking you as a resident of the state.

Not being much of a federalist by freeper standards (I want the right choice made, I ultimately don’t much care who makes it, realpolitik) I wouldn’t mind a federal ban one bit. But I assume the courts would overturn it since it would be a conservative and not a liberal overreach so it would take a constitutional amendment which we could never pass now.

Ironically enough if DOMA had been struck down 10 years ago, we would have probably passed an amendment and there would be no gay marriage.
