Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) today introduced a budget he says will balance the budget in five years with $2.3 trillion in tax cuts.
Pauls Platform to Revitalize America brings spending below the historical average of 19.1 percent of GDP in the first year and spends $9.6 trillion less over the next 10 years based on the current Congressional Budget Office baseline. It achieves a $17 billion surplus in FY2018 and reforms entitlement programs Medicare recipients, for example, would receive the same healthcare plan as members of Congress.
It replenishes $126 billion to the Defense Department stripped in sequestration and puts an annual cap on foreign aid at $5 billion. The plan also repeals ObamaCare and Dodd Frank.
Pauls budget kills four government agencies: the departments of Commerce, Education, Housing and Urban Development, and Energy. It also privatizes the Transportation Security Administration.
Washington has a serious and reckless spending problem that must be re-evaluated. American families across the country are required to live by a budget and Congress should be no different every taxpayer dollar needs to be spent more wisely. Therefore, I am offering a plan that will address this countrys looming debt crisis in a truly timely manner balancing the budget in just five years, Paul said. The time has come for a change that will restore fiscal order in this country, and I will do everything in my power to ensure that this happens.
His budget includes a flat tax and lifts barriers to domestic energy exploration and production.
UPDATE: Late this evening the Senate voted on Pauls budget as an amendment to the continuing resolution. It failed 18-81.

HOORAY Rand! BIG GOVERNMENT IS CRONY SOCIALISM. “Socialism Is Legal Plunder” - Bastiat
DEFUND socialist collectives, foreign and domestic. DISMANTLE domestic socialist collectives.
live - free - republic
Sounds like a good start.
not single democrat on that list
I like Rand’s idea a lot
also eliminate the EPA , FEC ,FCC , OFFCp and IRS
Many, many more need to be eliminated. DHS for one...
There is a lot of national defense infrastructure outside of DoD. You could considate on the one hand. On the other, important programs that support strategic defense or intel gathering capabilities, if consolidated, could be lost in budget battles to tactical types who only think in numbers of tanks or fighter jets. Keeping them separate preserves them from infighting, but does not reduce their important roles. Other examples include NGA, CIA, other and three letter organizations that dont like to be lumped in together both for the reasons stated and others.

Excellent, the Defense Department is the one thing the federal government really should be devoting significant resources towards.
Pauls budget kills four government agencies: the departments of Commerce, Education, Housing and Urban Development, and Energy. It also privatizes the Transportation Security Administration.
Wonderful!
That list tells you what states to live in.
Notice 2 from most. Although WY, KY & KS would be too cold for me. OK gets pretty cold too. But TX looks better every day.
I wonder if Paul’s planned tax revenue includes the costs of future wars, nation building or domestic recessions.
McConnell?
RE: Wonderful!
Unfortunately, anything wonderful does not pass the Senate. This budget went down to defeat 81-18.
RE: also eliminate the EPA , FEC ,FCC , OFFCp and IRS
What do you propose to replace the IRS with?
He failed, but now the dialogue can begin. Let the socialists and their presstitutes defend these three agencies. It was wise to put the money back into defense, but he could instead break it out as grants back to the states to spend as they please. Then it might have passed.
Ooh, sounds devastating.
Now that Paul admitted on FNS that he is for giving illegals path to voting and claims they are ‘natural conservatives’ who he never met one who wanted a handout, we can forget about this.
His new Dreamer voters want all these things and more, they want Obama-care now
AZ is fine, and plenty warm. Mentally Ill McCain wasn’t going to support anything Rand Paul did, anyway, but his days are numbered and his state is much more conservative than he is. No danger yet that AZ is going to go the way of CO.
Yes, but it's a start.
It's especially wonderful because it sounds like the kind of budget that will satisfy almost ALL the grass roots. It returns some money to defense which many conservatives (including myself) believe should be funded at a high level, slashes a bunch of worthless departments that most people won't miss, and moves to balance the budget in a reasonably short time frame (5 years), and includes tax cuts too.
This is the kind of "big idea" that we need to change the dynamic and capture the public's attention.
Its a start...
Sorry, it’s kabuki. McConnell has obviously made a deal with Reid to allow some meaningless red meat votes to mollify the GOP base. The question is, what did McConnell give up to get these votes?
We need vigorous debate and credible opposition to the Dems. Until we get that, everyone inside the beltway not named Ted Cruz is part of the problem.
yeah and?
