Doctor Raoul died Saturday of a rare form of cancer. He was 58.
Raoul's family contacted us this morning to see if they could find out more about his activities as an activist.
This is such a shock. His family is looking for photos and stories about him.
He is and always will be a Free Republic icon.
He kind of fell off the face of the earth about 2 or 3 years ago now. All attempts we made to reach him failed.
If you have photos please contact me. Please feel free to post stories and I will make sure the family sees this thread.
WHOA! I just remembered another one:
“Group hug!”
Working on the context of that! What with my old age and decrepitude, it may take a moment or two to recall the scene.
I do remember it was at one of the White House FReeps, though.
that’s true, I wore it at Tiananmen Square and RUSH posted it on his main website advertising his CLUB GITMO shirts, that was me wearing Doctor Raoul’s shirt :)
I also submitted a shirt at the Great Wall, but RUSH didn’t post it :)
Good to see you, old friend.
Wish it was precipitated by something more cheerful.
yep, that’s Doctor Raoul’s shirt :)
Abner:
To one of your original points at the original posting of this sad notice I would like to update with the following to family members and those outside the site that were close to him and happen to read this.
From the 500 postings to this discussion thread, I hope you, the dear ones suffering this sad loss, can see how high the respect was for our good Doctor.
Additionally from the many photos, you can see what a tremendous leader and example he was as a patriot. He, with a few others, provided the in-person leadership to a whole group of people that were very appreciative of his example and good hearted conduct at in-person activism events. He was literally famous for his appearances as you can see.
We, of course, don’t know how much of his devotion to this cause he shared with you in the family. We hope that our sharing in this manner lets you take an even greater pride in your beloved and in some small way helps soften the deep loss and sorrow.
He was a Giant of a man.
When you were with us, you could make me laugh like hell. Sleep well, my friend. Godspeed.
So sorry to learn of Dr. Raoul’s passing. Rest in peace, fellow Freeper.
Thanks, Nutmeg for the post. Very sorry to hear of his passing. Dr. Raoul, you will be missed. RIP, my friend.
Mega dittos Ken. I think of her often and hope she is healthy and happy. I also miss yaya123, another great freeper who left us far too early!
Beautifully said. Thanks.
More sad news, but he’ll be able see some good Freepers up there.
RIP - Prayers to the family
Those were fun days for the most part. I couldn’t believe what that nut-job did to you. It was at one of those rallies that Dr Raoul gave me his bull-horn. I was amazed. He knew exactly the right things to say and had his information imprinted in his brain. I had looked on here (FR) over the past few years and hadn’t seen any posts from him and wondered what was going on.
I hope you are well.
How very true.
Damn.
Old timers may remember that he and I organized many actions in the Philadelphia area, back in the day (1998 onwards).
He was a good man, and a great American. God bless him.
Doctor Raul sometimes demonstrated by himself. A one-man show. That’s how passionate he was. I remember seeing him with his red Clinton/Devil mask down there at the bottom of City Line Avenue in Bala Cynwyd.
My condolences
