A tornado is an isolated and short term event and one can only prep by having a tornado shelter. I have experienced one tornado up close.
Fleeing is rarely an option.
We have, however, seen what happens when one is not prepping for a hurricane.

Probably will not survive the first 100 rounds but I do expect that the stored rounds will become as valuable as money if they were needed. I don't expect to survive alone.

By far the best rechargeable batteries are Eneloops, al Eneloos are great, but you may as well read (very) carefully to make sure that you are getting the 3rd generation instead of the 2nd, they will say that they are good for 1800 cycles instead of 1500, and they will operate down to minus 4 degrees F.
For solar chargers I have a couple of $26.00 ones that I bought for almost nothing, they work but they are slow and only do 2 each at a time, for me that is plenty adequate for desperate times but if you want something better, Goal Zero gets a lot of positive reviews.
I would just go to Amazon and REI and read reviews, also remember that a charger with a cigarette lighter plug would keep your batteries charged, and buying a solar battery trickle charger for you auto would make that practical for even when you had quit using the car.
Eneloop doesn't make D's and I have to have many Ds, so went with the same new technology Tenergy Ds with the same low self-discharge of the Eneloops.
I don't think about the money these took to buy because they mean living well or barely living if I don't have them.
If the SHTF I’m SOL. We’re in south Florida and the only game around here is possums, coons an bunnies. I’m disabled and don’t have whole lot of mobility. I’m down to a couple hundred rounds of 9mm and 38 hollow point. The wife and I both require a LOT of meds. Got some canned food set aside and will be adding to that soon. A lot of Ramen is in our future. Our house has a couple of ponds nearby for water for the toilets. I am saving filtered water in gallon milk jugs. Being in south Florida, our exit routes are very limited. Sometimes I wish I’d retired back to Michigan, but I opted for the idyllic lifestyle.
We run all water from our tap through our Big Berkey before drinking to get the chlorine and flouride out of it. We just recently filled our 3 blue 55 gallon barrels with water and stored them in the garage.

I need to drain mine and re-fill. I just have two. Should probably pick up 1-2 more.
