NEW YORK A New York City man whose murder conviction was overturned after 23 years in prison has suffered a heart attack on his second day of freedom.
David Ranta's lawyer tells The New York Times (http://nyti.ms/102uUVo ) the former inmate had a serious heart attack Friday night and is being treated at a New York hospital.

At least he’s still alive.
if he did not get a ton of money for the time he spent in the slammer, he should have.....a bundle!!
According to this article Ranta admitted to being part of the conspiracy to commit the robbery, just said he didn't pull the trigger. If that is the case then he is as guilty as the shooter.
After 23 years, CONSENSUAL sex could do that to a man.
REally.....cnn said nothing about him being part of the conspiracy to commit robbery.
I found this story real fishy from the get-go. Just me though.
How sad.
karma is usually self-balancing
“These walls are kind of funny. First you hate ‘em, then you get used to ‘em. Enough time passes, gets so you depend on them. That’s institutionalized. They send you here for life, that’s exactly what they take. The part that counts, anyways.”
Red from Shawshank Redemption.
Here's a CNN story that does say it. I don't want an innocent person punished for a crime they didn't commit. That being said too often these "innocent" men aren't all that innocent. Granted a new trial 20 yrs later, evidence lost or degraded, witnesses die, are intimidated or influenced in some way and prosecutors decline to retry.
Also not a law enforcement boot licker. There are crooked cops and prosecutors.
thanks. I agree with you.
Someone told him how much Obamacare was going to cost him annually.
Maybe there is some justice against Evil in this world. Ranta may be facing a much harsher judgment soon.
Yeah, hopefully sooner than later.
The shawshank redemption- one of the best movies l have ever seen. A real feel good movie.
Shawshank was a very underrated movie. The graphic prison stuff wasn’t for everyone.
One of the classic quotes from Red when the prisoners were placing bets on who was going to be the first of the new inmates to cry in their cells:
Red: “My money’s on that tall drink of water with the silver spoon up his ass.”
Many experts have since come to regard it as a perfect. Movie though.
