Reid Reverses Course, Will Introduce Tough Gun Bill

Harry Reid will reverse course and allow a tough gun bill to be introduced in the Senate.

The Huffington Post reports, "Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) will introduce gun control legislation Thursday night that includes a proposal for universal background checks, a high-ranking source told The Huffington Post." 

The liberal website adds:

It's obvious from what happened here in Colorado, Democrats know: Career be damned. What Obama wants, Obama gets.

I don't know about this. I think that the Democrats believe that this is a paradigm shift, and that gun-control enthusiasts are a clear majority of Democrats and that gun-control enthusiasts plus gun control apathetics are a clear majority of the electorate in Democratic districts. A strong enough backbone, and a couple of wins, and they'll break the perception of strength that the NRA has. Identical to the pattern they see with gay marriage, where an issue has transformed from poisonous to inarguable in the space of a few years

. Pretty much the only place you'll find Democrats who don't adopt this reasoning is the US Senate. No gerrymandering, too many represent states that tend to vote Republican, and US Senate seats are few and high enough profile that even with the pathetically weak bench the Republicans have, a weakened Democrat can often attract a strong enough Republican to beat him.
