Paralyzed veteran Tomas Young, an outspoken critic of the Iraq war, wrote what he said was his final letter to former President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney before he dies in hospice.
In an interview with Truthdig columnist Chris Hedges, Young said he had made a decision to go into hospice care, to stop feeding and fade away, "instead of committing the conventional suicide." Normally, to enter hospice care a physician must determine that an individual has less than six months to live.
Then 22, Young was wounded in Sadr City in April 2004, only five days into his Iraq tour. One bullet severed his spine, another hit his knee. The native of Kansas City, Mo., was left wheelchair-bound, paralyzed from the chest down.

For all who have been killed/horribly injured on Obama’s watch, Obama has lost Iraq and will lose Afghanistan, thereby making heroic sacrifices worthless. I’m not arguing whether nation building in such places is doable - that’s another debate. Bush had the belief of preemption in regard to preventing more 9-11s. What is Obama’s overriding principle??? For the deaths and maiming on HIS watch...
Tough stuff but does not change how we deal with our current realities.
Did he sign up before or after 9/11? Ah, it doesn’t matter, really. We’ve been fighting these “police actions” for decades. If he so happened to join for freebies during the lull between Iraq wars and figured all we’d be fighting were Kosovos, well, tough luck. I certainly know I’d never serve unless forced in an army that has little to nothing to do with defense. Which is our armed forces since the Spanish war, at least, and arguably since 1812.
” to stop feeding and fade away, “instead of committing the conventional suicide.”
This puke should have faded away in another dark alley instead of going drama queen in his last moments. Where’s the letter to the liberal media such as AP that made sure we lose the Iraq War with their lies?
He is dying and wants to blame someone else for his delusions.
Bush the Younger thought the way to prevent 9/11s was through nation building. Which reveals neoconism as stupid (as if we didn’t know). That, plus he ran against nation building, which makes him a liar and as unprincipled as you accuse Obama of being, as well.
Obama’s overriding principle is the same one guiding the Establishment view of both parties for at least a little over a century. I don’t know what it is exactly, since they never say. Basically it’s a mix of imperialism and internationalism so as to ensure Anglo-Saxon especially and Western generally control of global markets. Also, global cultural hegemony, but less so. They’ll leave pygmy tribes alone to be pygmies, maybe. Or at least only make them go to school for a couple years instead of making them wear a shirt and tie on threat of blowing them up.
If you’re an oil exporting country, then they’ll blow you up for sure should you threaten to raise the cost of energy. Not willy-nilly, but on the slightest pretext.

At the end of the day W was the “shitts” of a president. He led this country straight into the waiting arms of the half breed!
If Gore had been President during that period the US would not have invaded. Saddam would be alive and in power and possibly possessing nukes which he could drop on Israel more easily than Iran will be able to when it has gotten to that stage.
Obama does not seem to have the security of the US and its allies on his radar screen. His goals are to win the approval of the chattering classes in the US and to protect and advance Muslim interests worldwide.
He signed up two days after 911 to fight those responsible for the terror. He didn’t sign up to go to Iraq. I (and others of the Pat Buchanan wing of the Conservative wing) have a certain amount of sympathy for his point of view.
Yes, the Rats exploited Bush’s decision to invade, but that decision cost the conservative movement the House and possible presidential elections for years to come.
I hesitantly went along with Bush, but this turned out to be another fiasco. Don’t know that I can ever support another foreign adventure by our Gov’t again. They never end well.
I enlisted right after Nam but have seen too many young kids wasted in Lebanon, etc.
Let’s defend the homeland from our own borders.
That in itself is enlightening.
So, in a spate of patriotic fervor, he joins the Army, goes through basic training and AIT, goes to Iraq instead of Afghanistan and gets shot after FIVE DAYS? And somehow, this makes him not only an expert about war, but about politics and who is responsible as the evil villains for that war?
According to his Wiki: “There he hoped to earn money for college through the G.I. Bill and, in his words, “exact some form of retribution” on those who caused 9/11.”
So he wanted a free college education, and wanted to get revenge. Revenge as in maiming and killing other people, perhaps leaving them in the same state he now finds himself.
“On April 4, 2004, just his fifth day in Sadr City, Tomas Young got called outside the wire on a security detail. Though the Missouri native had been raring to hunt down Osama Bin Laden in his Afghan cave after joining the Army in a post-9/11 rush of patriotism, Young was strongly opposed to his deployment in Iraq.
“Going to Canada wasn’t as in vogue amongst dissenting soldiers at that time, so I transferred into a job in the company clerk’s position from the infantry line platoon. I thought I was going to put myself in the safest position possible,” says Young. “It was a horrible plan.”
I’m sorry about his injuries and self pity, dude, but what you know about war is about the same as if you had been a civilian crippled in a car wreck, or while diving into the shallow end of a pool. Yeah, it would be a bummer if you had been crippled in that way, but now, ending your life for the same self pity you have been wallowing in is just the sort of capstone I would expect.
Thank you for your service.
Sorry to see that you have decided to dishonor it with this nonsense.
Have you seen those alleged emails from Hillary to Sydney Blumenthal? I believe that they are fake, written after the fact to take the heat off of Hillary and Obama for the Benghazi attacks. Instead, the emails blame the video, protesters and George Bush. It is such an obvious scam because Hillary would not have had any reason to have such a high level discussion with Blumenthal, in the first place.
This is the first that we have heard from good old Syd, since the DUI that he received after celebrating the New Hampshire primary in 2008.
Around the end of 2002, Saddam was giving signals he would go into exile. I even remember reading clear as day confirmation that he WAS going to step down and go into exile.
So naturally to stop this, immediately in January of 2003 the left started holding protests until they held one massive protest world wide in February of 2003 especially in Europe.
Guess what Saddam did next? That’s right, he told the UN the US and everyone else to go to hell, that he was staying in power and doing whatever he wanted. Why not? All these protesters were against the US and GW Bush! Saddam has the whole world on his side!
Yet here we go, once again, it’s all Bushs fault. If I recall, he really didn’t have a choice. But they left did when it came to emboldening the Hitler of the middle east which they had NO qualms about doing.

He is dead.
Surprised to see any people here who are not respectful to a fallen soldier, no matter his politics.
Where is the evidence he actually wrote the letter? I suspect a ghost writer
None whatsoever. Another libtard article trying so desperately to revive anti-Bush sentiments when his approval is much higher than Klownie the Kenyan.
