A Florida Atlantic University student said he was punished after he refused a professors directive to stomp on a piece of paper with the word Jesus written on it. The university, meanwhile, is defending the assignment as a lesson in debate.
Im not going to be sitting in a class having my religious rights desecrated, student Ryan Rotela told television station WPEC. I truly see this as Im being punished.
Rotela, who is a devout Mormon, said the instructor in his Intercultural Communications class told the students to write the name Jesus on a sheet of paper. Then, they were told to put the paper on the floor.
He had us all stand up and he said Stomp on it, Rotela said. I picked up the paper from the floor and put it right back on the table.
The young college student told the instructor, Deandre Poole, that the assignment was insulting and offensive. I said to the professor, With all due respect to your authority as a professor, I do not believe what you told us to do was appropriate, Rotela said. I believe it was unprofessional and I was deeply offended by what you told me to do.
Rotela took his concerns to Pooles supervisor where he was promptly suspended from the class.
Poole did not return calls seeking comment. According to his university profile, he has a PhD from Howard University and is authoring a book titled, Obamamania: The Rise of a Mythical Hero.
The university did not explain why students were only instructed to write the name of Jesus and not the name of Mohammed or another religious figure.

Thank you for pointing that out. Department Chairs responsible for the Course Catalog defend their department just like any other government agency. Most people, duck their head hold their nose, and go along to get the degree.
Happy you found a good place to be now.
I wish for you the best of luck and much success.
This is an example to all Christians. We need to stand up for our beliefs and not let the religion of secularism dominate our culture.
“And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.” (Matthew 21:44)
Images of Mohammed, and stepping on the name or image of Mohammed, are considered VERY offensive insults to Muslims. I’ve written his name on the soles of 3 pairs of shoes in the past... one in Arabic, thanks to a linguist friend of mine.
Oh yeah, the shoe sole thing really pisses off Muslims. It’s always good for a laugh.
The saddest part of this is that ONLY ONE STUDENT REFUSED!!!! OMG!
He’s BLACK??? I thought most of blacks were CHRISTIANS!!
Thanks...I just e-mailed Gov. Scott.
That is frightening.
Excellent...I hope these on-line systems financially cripple the communist 'brick and mortar' systems that are destroying America.
Potential loss of money has not prevented colleges from persecuting conservative students in many cases in the past. http://www.splc.org/news/newsflash.asp

Here it says he complained to school officials that Poole had offended his religious convictions. Even if he was strong in his denunciations, we need more people who are as unreasonable and "inappropriate?
Note that Prof. Poole is vice-chairman of the Palm Beach County Democratic Party, which is intolerant of opposing views while protesting intolerance.
Jesus was considered "inappropriate" for reproving the hypocrisy of His day, and stomping on His name is another expression of the demonic spirit behind the rage against Him.
Indeed.
But consider the most colleges are basically brothels and liberal indoctrination camps (the two go together).
Strange and making much ado about nothing?! Asking students to even do this is a blasphemous and form of persecution, and if it was Muhammad's name they were asked to step on then the college would be apologizing from here to Mecca.
As for the profs book, Pooles is vice-chairman of the Palm Beach County Democratic Party. http://www.bizpacreview.com/2013/03/21/media-fail-stomp-jesus-fau-professor-is-a-dem-party-official-56927
Anyone who would like to send an email to Florida Atlantic University and express your thoughts regarding Poole and the fact the university is backing him llsboca@fau.edu
Fox News obtained a synopsis of the lesson that got Rotela in trouble:
Have the students write the name JESUS in big letters on a piece of paper. Ask the students to stand up and put the paper on the floor in front of them with the name facing up. Ask the students to think about it for a moment. After a brief period of silence instruct them to step on the paper.
That request alone is enough to indict the college for anti-Christian disrespect. Consider what would happen if a conservative college asked then to do the same and the name was Allah or Muhammad. Or Obama?
Power, it is all about power. How about if a student writes the professor’s name on a piece of paper, place it on the floor and paraphrase Jesus’ words, “whoever is without sin, cast the first stomp.” And by today’s standards I am sure there are plenty who would willfully with delight, admit to be sinners and would stomp on the not only the professor’s name, but name, Jesus Christ as well. And they would do it gleefully, all the time craving the love and acceptance that only faith in the Lord and Jesus.
Good Point. Why are students paying for this kind of crap?
And not only paying but paying large amounts of money.
Again, its all about power.
I would stomp on a picture of the obamanation and his political allies in a moment but Jesus is my God and Saviour and such action is a heresy against the living God of Israel.
