EDITORIAL: Gun control by the U.N.The White House attempts an end run around the House
Washington Times ^ | Mar. 20, 2013 | The Washington Times Staff

Bureaucrats from 150 nations are ramping up efforts to impose gun control through international pact. Here in the United States, the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty has become the vehicle to drive an agenda that is deeply controversial because once a treaty is ratified by the Senate, it becomes the supreme law of the land.

Last week, Secretary of State John F. Kerry — no friend of the Second Amendment — announced support for the treaty, which calls for international regulations on firearms, including personal firearms as well as military weapons. During the presidential campaign, President Obama was evasive about his position on the treaty. Now that he has fully “evolved” on the Second Amendment, he has the “flexibility” of not having to face voters again, and is pushing for the treaty.

There are plenty of reasons to be concerned about what’s being cooked up in Turtle Bay. Proponents say the treaty is only meant to crack down on illegal gun-smuggling, and the only people who ought to be concerned are military strongmen looking for a good deal on black-market rocket launchers. Of course, there’s more to the story. The exact wording of the agreement, and more importantly, how vague passages can be interpreted and twisted by the courts, will determine what the treaty actually means. It could, for example, force America to implement a national gun-registration scheme, ban importation of weapons and impose burdensome regulations on transfers.

Can we march on DC and burn it down?

You have my permission.

Could a UN treaty end free speech, allow UN “peace keeper” troops to be housed in private residences, end trial by jury or allow UN “inspectors” to enter my residence without a warrant?

Blue helmets make good targets.

Americans won't stand by for an ill-defined military coup, not be governed by a military junta.

You mean the apathetic Americans who don't care about what is happening in D.C. on a daily basis? Those same Americans who vote for a Marxist POTUS and depend upon the government for handouts?

On the contrary, many American civilians will participate in such a military coup. It may be the only way to restore this country to the path that will sustain its life over the long run.

And for those who resist? Many civilians I know will be happy to put them in their place if necessary. We'll see if there are enough patriots left in this country to actually put an end to the absurdities in D.C., but I wouldn't hold my breath.

That being said, I'm prepared for what comes.

“so many things going on to bring about CWII...”

We are not talking about a Civil War...think Revolutionary. It is like 1776, only worse. And a majority is not needed. The Patriots of 1776 were a minority. They got the job done.

I suggest you stock up on food and cache it appropriately. That is but one of the lessons in Leviticus 25-26 by the way.

Seriously. A handgun works fine against an army, but without logistical preparation, it won't last against this enemy. IMO, this enemy is perfectly fine with using weaponized smallpox.

I don’t believe this treaty has the 67 votes needed in the Senate and will not have.

It doesn't need 67 votes to pass. It needs is 2/3 of the Senators present to concur. As a quorum for business only requires 51 Senators, this abomination could be rammed through in a surprise midnight move with as few as 34 votes!

Do you think the anti-2nd Amendment Democrats would be beneath making that sort of sneaky move? Do you think they would care?

Point 8 of the Preamble of the Declaration of the UN Arms Trade Treaty?

That is where the stink starts. Because the Treaty only references the “Guidelines” of United Nations Disarmament Commission.

Yeah, there really is a Disarmament Commission.

http://www.un.org/disarmament/

Pull it up.

Right there is a video proclaiming the wonders of . . . UN Conference on the Arms Trade Treaty, 2-27 July 2012 New York!

The links under “Conventional Arms” include one directly to the New York Conference and one on “Small Arms.”

Go to “Small Arms.”

http://www.un.org/disarmament/convarms/SALW/

Scroll down a bit to the “you are ska-rood” part. You will know it when you see it.

Small arms and the UN...

“Governments have a responsibility to ensure public safety and they have an interest in providing human security and development to their citizens. So they should ensure that small arms from Government stocks or from private ownership are not misused and do not enter illicit circuits, where their use may contribute to instability and to exacerbating poverty.”

“or from private ownership” Yep, YOU.

Then it is back-linked to guess what?

The Treaty’s Programme of Action on small arms which is ALL of the control, reporting, infrastructure and point of contact language in the pdf files linked above.

“To attain those goals, within the UN, countries have agreed on several commitments on small arms control: the Firearms Protocol, the Programme of Action on small arms - including an Instrument on marking and tracing - and the Basic Principles on the Use of Force and Firearms by Law Enforcement Officials.”

http://www.un.org/disarmament/convarms/SALW/

It is also where we find this steaming pile...

Marking and tracing

“If national law enforcement officials were able to trace small arms back to their last legitimate owner, who might then be held accountable, “

What does THAT remind you of? Universal background checks that create a national registry of guns.

How about that!

And that’s right bud, this means tracing it back to and holding accountable... YOU.

No matter where that firearm turns up or how long ago you sold it.

And once jugears signs the treaty does anyone actually believe he will not declare all this legal and applicable to American Citizens?

.

Yeah... Considering how many of us are former .mil and other related backgrounds... I think we’d be bringing a bit more to the Party than just a handgun.

Just waiting for them to pop smoke.

This is what every gun owner’s attitude should be. I don’t really GAF what Obama or the UN (what a joke) thinks. Diane Freakstein says “I really care about this issue...” - WHO GIVES AN EFFING SH!T what you think, Diane? WE care about it too, and it’s PROTECTED, so FU@# OFF!

Just plain NO.

War of Restoration.

Agreed though. They are bringing it down on their own heads. All they need to do is obey the Constitution and turn from this path.

In other words, if the Second Amendment goes, will the First, Third, and Fourth Amendments be safe? The answer is no.

Please don't take the following critique of the issue which the referenced article discusses personally EXCH54FE. But consider that backdoor gun control via treaties is another issue where flag-waving patriots are needlessly trembling in their boots as a consequence of not knowing the Constitution and its history. And you're probably not going to hear the following from Obama guard dog Fx News about constitutionally-based limits on the Senate's power to make treaties.

More specifically, based on his expert knowledge of the Constitution, knowledge which all patriots should have, and also his experience as Vice President and therefore president of the Senate, Thomas Jefferson had officially noted that the president and the Senate cannot use their constitutonal power to negotiate treaties as a backdoor to force US citizens to comply with foreign laws based on powers which the states have never degated to Congress via the Constitution.

"In giving to the President and Senate a power to make treaties, the Constitution meant only to authorize them to carry into effect, by way of treaty, any powers they might constitutionally exercise." --Thomas Jefferson: The Anas, 1793.

"Surely the President and Senate cannot do by treaty what the whole government is interdicted from doing in any way." --Thomas Jefferson: Parliamentary Manual, 1812.

One of the reasons that the Founding States undoubtedly made the Constituton's Article V where treaties are concerned is the following. When the Senate needs to negotiate a point in a treaty which Congress actually has no Section 8, Article I authority to address, the Senate is required to do the following. The Senate is to comply with Article V by rallying Congress to propose to the states for ratification an amendment to the Constitution which would grant Congress the specific power that it needs to negotiate the treaty. And if the states chose to ratify the proposed amendment, then the Senate would have the constitutional authority that it needs to proceed with the treaty.

But while activist justices wrongly ignored Jefferson's words when they decided Missouri v. Holland in 1920 in Congress's favor, a case where corrupt Congress had deliberately tapped the Senate's power to negotiate a treaty in order to bypass the 10th Amendment, the Supreme Court subsequently seems to have overturned Missour v. Holland as evidenced by the following excerpt from Reid v. Covert.

"2. Insofar as Art. 2(11) of the Uniform Code of Military Justice provides for the military trial of civilian dependents accompanying the armed forces in foreign countries, it cannot be sustained as legislation which is "necessary and proper" to carry out obligations of the United States under international agreements made with those countries, since no agreement with a foreign nation can confer on Congress or any other branch of the Government power which is free from the restraints of the Constitution (emphasis added)." --Reid v. Covert, 1956.

And since we cannot trust Fx News to get the word out concerning Congress working with the UN as a constitutionally indefensible backdoor to take away our 2A protected gun rights, it's up to patriots to spread the word around.

We said the same thing about Obamacare.

Actually that never applied to Obamacare, which was domestic legislation. This would be an international treaty... the hurdles are much higher.

Stay out of my gun rights, I need my gun and permit, my son’s killer only served 14.5 yrs of his plea bargained sentence, socio path had threaten to kill any who testified against him, well I forced him to max out his “gooh” err bad behavior time. He is now free to kill again.

First of all, I am so sorry for your loss. I don't think I could calculate the damage it would do to our family if our only beloved daughter were taken from us, even now at age 32. I think that it would almost certainly kill my wife.

First off, remember this predator hasn't gotten off scott free, not forever. Sooner or later he is going to face God's justice and I don't think I'd want to be in HIS shoes then! Second, I know we all would hope these scum would face some earthly sanctions, too. We can only hope that if he ever faces another victim that individual is well armed and highly trained and knows what to do: "Two to the chest and one to the head. We'd like 'em alive but we'll take 'em dead!"
