WASHINGTON -- Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) gave a full-throated endorsement on Tuesday for comprehensive immigration reform that would allow undocumented immigrants to become citizens but not expand the employment verification system, putting him at odds with members of his party.
. . . . . . . . ..
But Paul differs from many Republicans, and some Democrats, on employment verification. Paul singled out E-Verify, an already-existing federal effort to check employment status. It's considered necessary by many to ensure businesses aren't hiring workers they shouldn't, but it's also criticized as cumbersome for employers and too likely to give false positives that would keep citizens and legal immigrant workers from being hired.
"My plan will not, though -- and this is where I disagree with some in the bipartisan group -- impose a national ID card," he said. "It will also not have mandatory E-Verify. I don't mind if there's E-Verify, maybe related to the tax code somehow, but I don't like the idea of making every business owner a policeman."

Right. So they won’t be defrauding the government by claiming 30 child tax credits, they won’t be sucking up welfare and public schooling, they won’t be voting, they won’t be bringing MORE and MORE and MORE of their “family” members?
This is NOT acceptable.
And it is a travesty to be calling SoConPubbie a troll!!
Well, who does???
The liberals who support background checks for gun purchases don't mind making every firearms dealer do the job of a federal LEO.
But it drives the liberals into fits to suggest the same treatment for background checks on new democrat voters illegal aliens.
You could fit the entire world's population into Texas with less density than NYC.
The issue isn't space. Try again.
Is that you, Obama?
We know you have an agenda and are pulling strings to keep your illegal alien aunt and uncle here.
Most hilarious post I've read. Ever.
What flavor is that Kool-Aid you're drinking?
Amen. When folks (many on FR) ask "How will you round up xx Million illegals?"...this, and following existing laws, is the answer.
You won't have to round them up...they WILL self deport.
If the law prevented you from working to take care of your family, would you break the law or resign yourself and your family to misery?
At least in the state where I live employers withhold part of their workers pay to cover state and local income taxes, then send the money to the state Department of Revenue. Counties get the money back each spring after workers file their tax returns. But they only receive part of the money, because some workers often undocumented immigrants never file. The money that goes unclaimed are funds that counties desperately need to run public operations but ends up money that just kind of sits right in the pot somewhere and kind of makes its way to the state general fund. Because the state has built a billion plus surplus, in part with income tax revenue never returned to the county, localities are stretched to the limit and have had to begin taking desperate measures like turning county roads back to gravel. The counties keep on demanding and the state keeps on greasing the wheels. It is a very tough and deeply rooted problem. Both parties are complicit in not ensuring the sovereignty of our nation and the protection of our jobs in favor of cheaper prices by turning a blind eye to illegal workers, because they are cheap.
What if they don’t want to be citizens, but just want to come here and pick tomatoes for half the year? Should we deny people who want to come here and work the ability to do so? If so, why?

we already give out 1000s of temp visas for foreigners to do that...

these are illegal aliens who dont want a visa or arent eligible for one...criminals etc...
they also dont want to pick tomatoes, thank you very much...
not even for half an hour...

however Mc Cain will give them $50 an hour to pick lettuces...
Rather than these folks making demands to our Senate and airing commercials demanding free stuff, why not make these demands of their own government?
>> Whats the alternative? Deport them all?
Back of the line attrition.
Tourists by definition aren't permanent residents. They don't belong here and can choose not to come and "tour". Permanent residents would now belong here. America would be their new permanent home.
Are you claiming the founders didn't care about or were wrong in their concerns about taxation without representation?
OK, just write my name in next time.
What if they don't want to be citizens, but just want to come here and pick up the welfare benifits?
Sure, and we can call it progress going backward.
How do you even find these folks when they drive a different car every two weeks, and change addresses every couple of months? There is little in the way of a paper trail that one can use to hunt them down.
So again we ask, how do you get 11 million people out of the country in this situation?
OK if they are deported they go home. If amnesty is granted they get to stay here.
Clearly Rand's solution can not be called amnesty because, er, uh, oh never mind,
Unless Cruz or Palin runs, I'm voting for Rand. I'm not voting for Jeb. I'm not voting for Christie. And I'll only vote for Rubio if there's no one else left. I'm disappointed on this but immigration is about at the bottom of my list of things I give a damn about. Constitution, Guns, Pro-Life, and States Rights are at the top.
I am actively going to work for Rand's campaign.
Well, I guess that’s that for Paul. Good, in a way, because now we don’t have to wonder if he’s been hiding the “kook gene.”
