Sen. Rand Paul: Illegal immigrants should be allowed to obtain legal status
WaPo ^ | 3.19.2013 | Rosalind S. Helderman

The dramatic shift in the Republican Party on immigration continued Tuesday, as Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), a conservative tea party icon and possible 2016 presidential contender, endorsed an overhaul of the nation’s immigration laws that would allow the nation’s estimated 11 million illegal immigrants to obtain legalized status. “Immigration will not occur until conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. That’s why I’m here today: to begin that conversation and become part of the solution,” he said in a breakfast speech Tuesday morning before the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in Washington.

Being a victim of and a witness to, illegals in this country, I have very strong feelings about illegals/immigration.

I will never, EVER agree to legalization, PERIOD!

This is not right as we have done things from our beginning as we have had to give blood for this country to have our own identity and to preserve our freedom.. Our own US government will not follow the rule of law. Holder and Obama. We all have to follow the law and regulations or we end up being burdened with some fine, penalty or worse circumstances from some form of a government (whether it would be local, state or federal) order which came from a law. What is the good in rewarding a person who is not even a legal resident. Come on in while you have these weak men and women ruling over the people; those of us who work and pay most of the bills into the treasury for you illegals. Good life, illegals. Smiles; no taxes paid for how many years and Rand wants to reward your status even though you came in by breaking our laws. Give me one leader (or leader in training) to stand up for the rule of law. One. 20 million here illegal. Those in charge made this mess and now they expect us, we the people, to believe in their words. Go home, illegals.. stop taking from a government that you are in while breaking the law.

breath of fresh air

I am honestly terrified of going back to the states (pretty much ANY state)..

I didn't have culture shock when I came here.. it was more of an 'amazement'... That was 15 years ago..

Now, not only would I have to adjust to a country of toothpicks changing to beach balls.....
I would be walking onto a country/state that I thought I used to know (:\) that may be like stepping back into 'Boystown'.. not just the perversion... but the stink too :p

Yeah I hear you. I have been active here ... but my interest level in politics went way down during the primaries last year. I think this country is screwed and its every man for himself

Have I ever told you how happy Iam that you and your family are in Texas to represent me and other fellow Conservatives? :)

...put the RINO on a pedestal about Christ level and call us all traitors for not going along with the immaculation....

It's mighty sad, but there are some among us who don't see how we can possibly lose by 'winning at all costs'.

Throwing the guiding principles of your party into the waste bin, in order to win an election, is how we ultimately lose everything. This has been borne out in actual practice in the Republican party since 1988, yet some are too dense to see it.

They confuse the jersey with the individual. If they're wearing our team jersey, then they must stand for everything we stand for, despite any public record which indicates otherwise.

And so what if they've got a black mark or two on their public service record? They're the 'lesser of two evils' dont'cha know, because they said so, and they're wearing our team jersey!

Well, thank you for saying so, Bik. I appreciate that. Thanks for standing tall for America on the ex-pat front. And I mean that.

Well, a BIG problem is that we can't get the kids away from the TVs... look at what they are showing nowadays :/ (need I say more? I think I am preaching to the choir here..)..

What happened to when we used to go out and get bumps and scratches? :p
Some things should NOT change..

When I was Sr Ed at off-road.com, I watched one piece of open land after another fall to the BLM/Sierra Club closures.

EVERY damn time a closure was proposed, there would be off-roaders screaming to ‘compromise’ with them so that ‘some’’ of the areas would be/stay open.

Today, 13 years later, almost everyone of those compromised areas are totally closed to multiple use and in fact many turned into nature preserve type areas.

But they got the compromise they wanted!!!!!

Now there's a real life lesson on the micro scale of what happens when we conservatives compromise our values in national politics. Too bad more people haven't experienced first hand what you did, in your battles with the enviro-wackos. Perhaps then they'd 'get it'.

Illegal aliens already have legal status, in the country they came from!

Make life here so miserable for them that they go home!

I have to laugh when some of the abject idiots I have argued with tell me I’m full of it. I LIVED the result. Wasted several years of my life fighting our own people (Gee, what a coincidence).

And if anyone thinks that and politics are two different issues, I would remind the unthinking fool that it was a PURELY political issue. Was. Is.

Same result.

Side note. Not so micro. The closures took millions of acres collectively out of the public domain with an economic impact in the low 9 figures....so far...and counting.

Tens of thousands of jobs lost too.

There’s a thin line between Libertarianism and anarchy. Libertarians cross that line when their justifiable support for individual freedom within a nation is bastardized into support for non-citizens to trample the laws of the very same nation.

You need to stop living in the past and also stop living in fantasy world.. Operation Wetback was done in the 50’s and that was then and to be quite honest do you really think that Barack Obama is going to do a Operation Wetback type of operation?? Or any politician??

You need to START living in the past. When things actually worked. Or do you prefer the liberal utopia your attitude reinforces?
